The story and seeing a psycharist

Post by ww_andi »

When i first heard of the game i couldn't help but have a series of quistens run through my head. For one the fact that they stated that in the doctors office it is in first person. This brought to my mind that maybe they are trying to conceal at least for the time who is actually seeing the doctor. Also what if this is a ploy for the order to hide the truth. What if they somehow captured harry and are tring to determine where the child is. I also thought that maybe a group of the order are entering his mind while he sleeps or some thing to try and gather information after he leaves silent hill. A little far fetched i know but it is driving me crazy. I just cant believe the game isnt cannon. That makes no sense to me other then to do what ever the f*** they want. I think it would just be a waste lol. sorry just speculations.

What does everybody else think where or how this game could unfold and whether or not it really isnt going to be cannon.

p.s.

Dont remember where i heard it wasnt going to be cannon but correct me if im wrong

They haven't directly stated "this won't be canon," but we got this out of two basic facts: 1) they bill it as a re-imagining of SH1, 2) Harry in SH1 is from the early 80s (as Tom has written, April 20, 1980), but this Harry has an iPhone-like device that's only been around for the last two or three years.

Pretty much. Believe it or not, the Silent Hill franchise has become quite hamstrung in its own rules. The fandom has pretty solid ideas of what the town can and can't do, which leads to the horror possibilities getting more limited as time goes on. That, I think, is the logic behind making this an AU.

That and Climax has to deal with canon disputes regarding Origins and I bet they'd rather not have another one of those on their hands.

It's not so much "non-canon" as "an alternate canon." Also, what Kenji said. The main Silent Hill universe isn't really all that scary anymore.

You'll have to play it to see it.

Personally, I speculate that it's something along the line that Harry is seeing a psychatrist to help him with his traumatizing experience, and is revisiting old images. This could explain why Harry looks older, and why we're living in an iPod era.
SH3 was released in 2003, just before iVideo, and a few years before iPod Touch. So I assume that in Shattered Memories, we're playing Harry before his death, preceding the events of SH3. He visits a shrink to help him out, and is thrown back into Silent Hill realm as the shrink has sessions with him (i.e. hypnotism). Fitting to the title "Shattered Memories" for me. Of course, I could be totally off.

I kept getting the idea of him seeing the psychologist after having the car accident, bit idk how plausible that is

Krysta are you absolutely sure. also him seeing a psychiatrist is very logical. Maybe the world of silent hill still haunts him in his subconscious lol. :P

I have a feeling that whoever is seeing the psychiatrist, it could be Harry. Maybe he somehow got accused of being insane after leaving Silent Hill. It doesn't say in any of the games, but the lyrics to "Hometown" shows he might have told the authorities. Of course they don't believe him so they send him to the asylum where he goes to a psychiatrist telling him about the events that happened during Silent Hill, hence setting up this re-imagining, Silent Hill Shattered Memories. It could be Harry, let's say "shattering" his mind to reveal the "memories" of his time in SH.

I was pretty sure that it's just going to be, you know, a flashback. Harry crashes his car, gets knocked out, has a flashback/dream of him seeing a psychiatrist, wakes up, starts looking for his daughter.

I'm pretty sure this game is going to exist in a completely different universe than SH1.

I really would rather it be the other ideas as compared to a completely different universe. It just doesn't seem as interesting

The fact that this whole game wont "count" as part of the overall story is something I was instantly dissapointed about. That's what happens when you do a remake. SH 1 was the game all the others were based on so you can't say it never happened. My favorite idea in this game so far IS the whole psychologist thing at the beginning of the game. (no one knows if it is part of their story or not) I like the game changing depending on how you answer the questions. Replay value.

Different answers? Where? You're the only one who's holding onto the idea that the game will somehow be canon (or, to be more specific, the same canon as past games).

Better it's in an alternate universe than have the game be RUINED FORAVAR because it has continuity problems.

Heh, I'm finding it funny that a lot of the same people that are complaining about Shattered Memories' non-canonicity also complained about 0rigins saying "Climax should've made their own universe."

Release the bombs.

...

Anyway, I don't see why people are complaining about the non-canonicity of SM. This game ISN'T going to ruin the canonicity since it's placed in ANOTHER universe. Instead, enjoy the game.

Just play the game as though you haven't played SH1. Simple. At this point canon or not is starting to just become annoying.

I never stated that origens should have its own universe. I liked the story in it and thought it fit fine. ANywho i suppose we are just talking about cannon or not now lol :|

However i suppose its up to the developers and their game.
