Oh I don't agree...the PC version of SH2 had a higher resolution, but the level of detail in the objects and the graphics is better than SH2 I think.

It's so hard to tell though, without direct comparisons. I played Origins on the PS2 with a friend who used to love the original game, and we were talking about how good the graphics looked despite it being ported from the PSP, and he made the comment, "you know...I do honestly think that the graphics for this game are almost pretty much as good as the graphics for Silent Hill 1".

Luckily I had brought SH1 with me so was able to load it up and show it in its three polygons per character glory :D He hadn't played it for years. It was quite a shock for him.

Oh it looks a lot better than SH2. It just doesn't look as good for 2009 as SH2 did for 2001, and that's only because it's a Wii game instead of HD consoles.

I think for a Wii game it looks pretty damn good and the art style is right there.

The character graphics might not quite be on level with Silent Hill 3, but the scenery is certainly some of the best the series has ever had, with so much detail that you can read the signs and things without needing to 'examine'.

Hmm...well they have said there would be bigger emphasis on running away and escaping in this game, but I highly doubt every action sequence will be the same, I'm sure they've deliberately come up with lots of varied and interesting scenarios.

Compare this to the first little glimpse of the otherworld in SH1 where you're quickly ambushed by the teddy bears and there's nothing much more... It wasn't like that throughout the rest of the game, so I don't think there's any reason to believe that there won't be variation in this game!
Also, I really hope that was temp music. That loop got old fast.
Heh...although it is still a lot more interesting than some of the three second loops you get in SH1 and 2... I dunno, I thought that whole chase sequence looked great.

If you want to argue SH1 has better visual design, do that to your heart's content, but seriously... you can see more clearly in Shattered Memories. It has better graphics.

i agree it has better graphics but i don't think this matters,
the sh1 graphics to this day still don't bother me, once you're sucked into the town it still all feels pretty real to me. i hope these graphics will have the same effect on me. i did not have this with homecoming although they had some of the best graphics i know. more detail does not equal a more realistic feel to me.

Aye, (facepalm)

I didn't expect people to talk about the graphics like they would be a big deal. Also, they can change the aspects as much as they want, as long as it will be an entertaining, scary Silent Hill experience. I'm waiting for this game and I think it looks and sounds good to me. Sorry :(

The beginning certainly was... interesting. I thought it was kind of cool that you actually had to nod when asked a question. I really like when there are choices to make that will effect the way your game turns out. Mostly through choosing what to say to a certain character rather than doing a certain thing, but in a survey form... kind of different.

Poor Mr. Milkie. :(

Cybil looks disgusting... That saddens me. During the Other World transition, I thought it was awesome that you could see it coming at you, spreading through the city. You could watch things start to deform, and bend/break. Otherwise though, I find it to be half past retarded. I really do not like the idea of it being 'cold' and 'arctic' at all. The rust-colored, fleshy hell thing was ten times creepier. What it kind of reminds me of now is The Day After Tomorrow.

And... are you seriously expected to run from the Monsters for the entire game?! I really hope that only lasts until you find a weapon IF you ever find a weapon. That really pisses me off... that makes it boring and rather annoying, actually.

I suggest that you give it a chance. Besides how can you know? Have you played it? 8)

I must disagree. First off, the rusted hell thing was only in the first game, Origins, and Homecoming. The flesh thing was completely different and everyone's favorite (SH2) had a run down water Otherworld. So it's not like this is the first game to do something different.

Even if it was, I'm beyond sick of the rustbloodfleshBLOODRUSTHELLFIREHELL Otherworld. A frozen over look gives a much more subtle air of creepiness. That's the kind of creepy I like, the subtle kind. Besides, if you want a rusted hell look, may I suggest going back and playing those games again? It's not like the Otherworld you like is erased from those disks because they decided to (GASP) do something different.

As for combat, there is no fighting back. Yes, you are expected to run and try and hide. In other words, yes you are expected to actually try to SURVIVE the HORROR as opposed to bash it's head in. Being defenseless might actually make Silent Hill scary again. I have no complaints about that. In direct contrast to your opinions, I'm thinking this is going to be the first time in awhile where monster encounters were not annoying and boring, since that is what they were in SH4, Origins, and Homecoming.

Oh, and Cybil's apperance changes depending on how you answered the questions in the beginning. We have seen 3 different ways she can look. So if you don't like the one shown here, go for one of the other two.

I never said anything about not giving it a chance. :) I certainly will, as all things deserve as such before fully judging. This is just how I'm thinking currently. My thoughts may change as I play the game- I may love it. It's just that I've played other games where you have to run from enemies instead of fight them (Clock Tower for example), so I'm thinking this may be similar in a way.

That's true, they are different. I just kind of bunched them together, lol. It's just that feel that is the same, for me. Of course, I can't expect everyone to feel the same way I do- that would be silly. And, that's a good point you make about SH2. I just think this frozen thing doesn't look as creepy at all.

... I've played the other games many times (minus SH5 which I just played), and it's not like I'm saying it's the end of the world. I just thought it looked kind of boring. Respectful of your view as I am- the frozen land doesn't impress me from first look.

I thought it made perfect sense to bash a monsters head in to survive. Especially with normal things that you can find off the street. (A steel pipe, a wooden plank, etc) It doesn't make sense to me to only run and hide with no combat at all. Wouldn't it be more realistic to fight back once in awhile? I'd think any person in a desperate situation such as this, would look for something to defend themselves with even if it's for 'just in case'. Though, I have to say that these monsters look really vicious like SHH's monsters. In which case, the best option is to run. xD

Oh, really? I'll have to look into that. Thanks.

A friend of mine just pointed me to the walkthrough.

For starters, anyone complaining about the graphics is an idiot. They look loads better than the first Silent Hill. Doubt it'll look as good on the PS2 and PSP, but it should look somewhat similar. Playing it on the Wii, of course, is going to be the ultimate experience. I actually like the idea that you move around with the nunchuck while using the Wiimote for the flashlight.

I also liked the part where you have to run from the monsters. I liked how the screen became noisier as they came closer. It looks a little difficult at first, but difficulty isn't a bad thing for the series.

All in all, not bad at all.

I can't wait for this game to be released. The walkthrough alone gave me the heebie-jeebies! It looks so good that I am going to purposefully not watch any more about this game.
I like how the monsters twitch around like that, (kind of like Valtiel, but to a lesser extent) and I love the ice theme. :)

I think the problem with that way of thinking is that you are not putting yourself in the character's position. You are thinking as a gamer. It's easy to say "I would grab a pipe and fight back" while sitting happily on the computer. I fully believe that 80% of people would not fight back if they were actually put in such a situation. They would either freeze in fear or stumble until they got killed or they would RUNRUNRUNRUN and if they didn't have anywhere to go they would hide. I know I would, at least. You better believe if I am walking the streets of some empty freaky town and a monster came out at me I would be running faster than I ever have in my life. That is how humans work.

But if it means anything to you, we see that he does have a flare. So he does try and attack them with the things he has. It just doesn't do anything but slow it down. I mean when he is first attacked he hears the voice of his daughter telling him that he can't fight them and he has to run. I'm pretty sure he is going to take the advice.

You're right- it is easy to say when it's not actually happening to me. (Let's hope to God it never does) People can get pretty desperate and brave in grave situations like that though (adrenaline if you will). I'm not saying that Silent Hill has been exactly... 'realistic' in monster situations, but I do think it makes sense to attack a monster. Especially if you're cornered, or can't run fast enough, etc.
I mean when he is first attacked he hears the voice of his daughter telling him that he can't fight them and he has to run. I'm pretty sure he is going to take the advice.
I can't argue with that. I would definitely follow that advice above all else.

So to say, you don't really get to decide what to do or how to react in some situations, ie, if you were attacked by a monster in the streets of some creepy, frozen town. Our immediate reactions as humans are to fight or to run, and to run seems to come to mind more when a freaky ass handful of running demons come after me.

If I ever found myself in Silent Hill in real life I would want to take some of the more aggressive gamers with me as bait. While their overestimation of their own abilities gets them mauled like the grizzly man I will be looking for a way out.

Never mind that the average gamer couldn't fight his/her way out of a paper bag. :D Hence, the attraction of empowerment in video games.

They don't call it "flight or flight." They call it "Fight or Flight." Different people have different instincts. Personally, when I have a nightmare and am attacked by a monster, I generally choose to fight it. The choice to fight it often causes me to suddenly wake up. I personally believe that if I ran, I would just get attacked from behind and die. As a kid, I was attacked by some bullies. I ran away, and they simply ran after me, knocked me down, and stomped on me. That has shaped my subconcious perceptions on the effectiveness of running away ever since. As a side note, I find Ice and Snow comforting, as I tend to overheat easily, and cool places generally make me feel comfortable. Therefore, I actually feel that "icy" otherworld feels more "safe" and comforting than normal world does. Unless you count the monsters of course.

EDIT: I just remembered: As a kid I once stuck my hand into some hot ashes, not knowing how hot they were. The pain was unbelievable. I have had a pathological hatred of fire/heat/warmth ever since. I view Ice/Snow as comforting and safe.
