from the video previews i have seen, the monsters look realllly generic and sort of boring

they dont look as twisted and deformed/messed up as they have been known to be in the series

From my understanding how you answer the psyche profile effects the monsters...
So, I'm sure there are a lot of monsters were not getting the privilege of seeing yet.

Those are what the monsters look like with little to no input from the player. The game is going to build and shape the monster according to your fears. If the game does it right, you won't even want to look at the thing by end game.

I think it's an odd move by the developers, though. They tried to get us excited by offering different versions of the same character, but... they decide to showcase generic monsters?

While I don't doubt the sincerity of their claims, it does leave me scratching my head and why they would do this.

Probably to retain the surprise of meeting the monsters tailored to you. If they showed you monsters from a path you happened to go down, it would take away some of the fear.

If anything, it'll be YOUR fault if the monsters suck! :D

And that's why this game is going to kick ass.

LOL, the game sucks for you if you're a boring person. That would be funny!

Dr. K: My evaluation is complete. You are a very boring person with little to no imagination. You might as well turn the game off, but if you chose not to, I will play you some elevator music whilst you search through a completely monsterless enviroment. I'll even tone down the graphics somehow. Just so that it meets your standards. Have a nice day.

Well, if that is true I'm sure I'm going to get the boring monsters. :(
I haven't done anything listed on that survey considered 'bad.'

As said before, the monsters in the trailer are blank slates, of a sort. We haven't seen any of the "true" monsters after input is given by the player, probably so that one particular path isn't spoilered and such.

Despite being "generic", it still made me feel uncomfortable when I watched the trailer. Especially when they're stalking Harry and when he's hidden in the closet. It reminded me of the Demon Childs from the original installment (one of the scariest creatures of SH)...

I'm completely with Aura.

My guess is that these "lame"* Raw Shocks we've yet seen in the trailers are created off a non-filled in psych profile, intentionally by the developers to surprise us. We'll all have our own surprise, or should I say shock, when we encounter our Raw Shocks for the first time. They will look nothing like those in the trailer.

*When I say lame, I don't mean it. I adore minimalism.

I have predicted the ultimate mind-fuck this game has to offer:
PRIME_BBCODE_SPOILER_SHOW PRIME_BBCODE_SPOILER:
THERE IS NO OTHER MONSTER OTHER THAN THE RAW SHOCKS

I have to admit that it does seem like a strange marketing maneuver - why hype the game with the blandest of your monsters when most non-fans of the series wouldn't bother to see the reason why they're so bland? It's not as though leaking one good monster would ruin the effect when we don't actually have context to put it in, anyway. =\

I was impressed by the monsters' actions, though. It's more than sufficiently unsettling.

I agree 100%.

The Silent Hill Homecoming monsters were so terrible it took away some of the atmosphere, imo.

I definitely can see why they'd be secretive of what the monsters could "evolve" into, but I wish they'd give us just a tiny preview.
