Shattered Memories versus SH1
I didn't take a long scan to see if anyone already talked about this, but as someone who hasn't played Shattered Memories yet, is it even close to the original story? I know it changes slightly depending on how you answer the question they give you, but does it remain close?
I have seen wanting to play the original game for some time now, but I dread going back to those graphics and awkward game play when I am so used to the modern feel of games today. If Shattered Memories will give me the story with an easier control scheme, I'd gladly pay to play immediately. However, I have heard things and read reviews... ehr, seen reviews, Thank you X-play... that the story is extremely different in this re-imagining, rather than remake.
So, what is the judgement on it? Will I get at least a similar experience in Shattered Memories?

I don't make a signature.
Except for the part of the signature explaining that I don't.

Shattered Memories is an almost entirely different experience. The similarities between the first game and the re-imagining are passing at best. The vast majority of the similarities lie in the names of characters/places and the most basic premise of the plot. If not for those things, you probably would never realize that Shattered Memories was related to Silent Hill 1 at all.
The experience you have with Shattered Memories will be significantly enriched if you are familiar with the first game though, due to certain references that you might not get otherwise. I would still recommend playing SH1, even if you are only able to stomach getting through it no more than once due to the graphics and gameplay.

I've not played this yet either, with being in the Uk and everything, but either way you should play SH1! It's what started it all. Shattered Memories, from what I gather, is an entirely different game all together. I very very loosely hangs to the original, but you will not get the same experience or story from playing this.
Play SH1. The graphics aren't that bad really. The controls are a bit clunky but it's an excellent game regardless. You'll be missing out if you don't play it.

The gameplay of SH1 really isn't that clunky, in my opinion. It has the whole Resident Evil tank controls thing going on, but the camera has a lot less problems than a lot of survival horror games do, and Harry moves around pretty quickly. Melee combat is surprisingly fun, too.
I agree that the graphics are pretty old-fashioned, but a lot of people, myself included, think that only adds to the atmosphere. I'd highly recommend giving SH1 another try. Heck, it's probably my favorite game in the series, besides maybe SH2.
As for Shattered Memories, I haven't played it yet, but it seems to be very different from SH1. I'm going to approach it as a whole new thing.

Different story, different atmosphere, different character personality, different gameplay, different universes. SH:SM has virtually nothing to do with the rest of the series. It's a spin off, non-canon.
The only thing is that they follow the same path location vise.
You should really play SH1. It's one my my favorites. It terrifying, the story, I found to be pretty deep (sadly the depth is often overlooked, as it isn't there on the surface, you really have to think about it to realize it), characters are colorful and transitions from one location to another are relatively smooth.
Besides, it's the one where it all begins. If you consider yourself a fan, you should definitively try and give it a play.

I see this two like 2 complate different games
SH1 is the alltime classic game that introduced us into the series, SH ShM is another story that is shust linked with the first game, nothing else, both are prrety cool in their own aspect if you see them diferentlly, if you compare them and try to find a gap betwen these two, it will shust make your mind blow. At first I thoght ShM was a sequel to SH3 (lol really) when I saw the ending for the first time, when I started to see it deeply I found out that no, ShM is a whole different story, no mattre how you put it.
I liked ShM becouse of the story, is not the same experience becouse of the story.

Find your self, in the town that takes ALL...
Well, this post sure is old but I feel like commenting anyway for those newcomers ;p
As a fan of Silent Hill from the beginning, I HIGHLY recommend you pretend that this game is not a Silent Hill game. That's the best way to approach it. However, if you do approach it in that manner, you will still be disappointed by the lack of actual gameplay involved.

Indeed, it seems that Climax has tried to cater both new and old fans by providing something fresh and accessible, yet still familiar and nostalgic on a certain level.Arsonist wrote:Different story, different atmosphere, different character personality, different gameplay, different universes. I just wish that the OFLC would hurry up and approve the game so that it can be released in Australia.

I'm eager to play it on PS2 but I still can't believe they changed the entire story of the original. They said 'remake' not 'redesign'. I'm still getting it for my SH collection but from the gameplay i have watched, looks pretty fun. ^___^

I was hoping for something more like a remake, but I was not disappointed at all with Shattered Memories. I am going to have the purchase the first game again to refamiliarize myself. I think that it has one of the all time best game stories, and I simply need to remaster it. Although the final seen with Lisa will break my heart again. lol.
Shattered Memories was unique. Since I got a wii for Christmas, I decided I HAD to play it and with it, I was a little amazed by the quality. I do wish it was more closely related to the actual SH, but they put enough tie-ins to make me giggle with excitement. lol

I think the biggest thing the remake-wanters want is for the original game to have better graphics. It's somewhat hard to get scared by a game with a man that has a block for a head.ww_andi wrote:I wish ppl would stop asking for a remake of the original cause it doesn't need to be remade its fine the way it is. If i can play it on my sony bravia 1080p so can you
