Thanks, me too.
[EDIT]This post was biasing. My enthusiasm got the better of me. Here's hoping I didn't contaminate the data...[/EDIT]

Ok, not a part of THIS study, but just as important to me: GAME FOR SCIENCE!!
When you finish the first part, set a timer for 30 minutes, play your eyeballs out, and when the time is up, complete the survey! Remember, you're doing this for SCIENCE, so try to be honest!

I also got someone else not on these forums but a huge gamer to do it since they were playing a game at the time anyway.

they are? that sounds interesting - do you have links to some studies, maybe?lain of the wired wrote:Already, video games are used to treat PTSD and phobias.
and you're free to use my posts if you want, though i haven't played through SHSM yet. also, did the survey earlier.

Hmm... I appreciate the offer, but SH:SM completion is kind of a prerequisite deal. It's kind of part of the point.
I'm debating whether giving a further explanation of WHAT I'm looking for exactly would cause participant attrition or not. I don't want people deliberately trying to change their answers just to fuck with the data, or try to be a good subject by giving me what I want. I'm looking for unadulterated data, here. But at the same time, I don't want people thinking I'm deceiving them in any way, shape or form by not saying the full hypothesis. There's no deceit, just observation, but still...
Also: Tetris reduces PTSD symptoms, virtual simulation games treat Iraq soldiers with PTSD, an earlier look at the same therapy, and video games are a cheap and effective tool in treating phobias. I've actually seen the set up for the Iraq soldiers game- they even give them properly weighted fake guns to hold and release certain smells that would trigger their symptoms, like burning rubber, smoke and cooking meat. It's an incredibly immersive experience, as it needs to be- you can't recreate that experience in any other way and still keep it ethical. I'll edit these into the first post, too.
Also also: ♥ Nanayashiki. By all means, yes, please, tell your friends; get them to do it, too! A bigger set of participants can only serve to raise validity of the study!

So totally doing this the day I get back to my dad's house and dig out my PS2. Sounds absolutely fascinating.lain of the wired wrote:Ok, not a part of THIS study, but just as important to me: GAME FOR SCIENCE!!
