Hah! Quite 'forth wall' eh? Almost the kind of thing you'd expect from Eternal Darkness.
Reminds me of Duke Nukem Forever, it puts a few joke-tips in the load screens sometimes ("When being shot at, try to avoid bullets", "If you get stuck, don't forget you can cheat by looking at FAQs online"), even actual useful tips are worded funnily sometimes ("Drinking beer makes you tougher").

Where we're from, the birds sing a pretty song, and there's always music in the air.

I think these were done on Homecoming as well, weren't they? Can't remember exactly.
I remember just lying back on my computer chair as the game loaded and out of nowhere "was it worth it?" came up. That made me sit up. It's just so abrupt and you kind of look around involuntarily as if somebody has actually asked you the question. I even kind of muttered "what?" lol!

Well, creeping people out is kind of what Silent Hill is all about, right?

I thought it was a nice touch - it's not often that Silent Hill breaks the fourth wall unless it's some sort of inside joke (like Heather facing the screen and asking what kind of person would stuff their own hand down a toilet).
I can't think of many more instances where the game or characters appear to address the player.

They never loved you, I took that to be Murphys thoughts on his family.
Anyone ever wonder how nice the real version of Silent Hill is?

I doubt Murphy had thoughts that his son didn't love him, and he seemed understanding about his wifes position.
I think it was just a mind fuck for the player.

Anyway, I think it's just to creep the player out. The first one I remember seeing was "It's in the room. You Just Can't see it". Then I started to search my room for ghosts or something. I liked that, was scary and WTF. Like the hanged prisoner in the monastery.
