Gross?

Heather finds out why it's true that you shouldn't talk to strangers. Or look in mirrors, quite honestly.

I found it more straight up disturbing as hell. Gross is definitely another word to describe it. Even a really damn nice way of putting it.

I had a couple friends who absolutely refused to play any of the Silent Hills.

"I don't need to see that shit" as he put it.

If you're attracted to horror genre, this isn't exactly "cutting edge" material anymore. I mean, what number SAW movie are we up to, now? As much as I'd like to say SH3 was gross based on the content (Claudia does eat a fetus, as has been noted over and over and over...), players by now will be numb to that kind of material. The imagery simply isn't graphic enough to be called "gross," certainly not these days.

I mostly only found the whole God Fetus part nasty. It's bad enough that Heather throws it up, but then Claudia has to come up and EAT it! Bleh lol

Y'know I thought this was gross at one time as well. . . . Then I saw "Mermaid in a manhole".
After seeing that. . . .Nothing is gross anymore. Scary, certainly. But no longer gross.

Silent Hill 3 wasn't really gross. The thing that stands out the most for me, and for probably everyone else, was when Claudia...
PRIME_BBCODE_SPOILER_SHOW PRIME_BBCODE_SPOILER:
ate the god fetus that Heather had regurgitated. Okay, more like inhaled the god fetus. There was no eating to it.
Honestly, I thought most of the effects were pretty cool. I loved how the walls bled and burned. It was creepy and cool. The monsters didn't really bother me, honestly. I would call Silent Hill 3's monsters and effects disturbing, rather than disgusting or gross.

Yes... I do.. yes I do!

The part where, Cheryl/Alessa/Heather Pukes out the fetus, but I don't know how the womb is connected to the stomach in anyway.

She pukes it out, that's disgusting... then Claudia comes and picks it up and swallows it... that's even more disgusting.

And the first boss looks like a male lower region organ.
Da eff? :?

Ugh, couldn't eat the entire day. :|

Edit: Just noticed that my post was inside a quote. Whoopsy! I don't think they looked like dinosaurs, but I do think they sound like them. Every time I see them I think of little dinosaurs and I mimic their sound.

I recall someone theorizing that the God wasn't in Heather's womb, but contained in every cell of her body, put there (or "infecting" her) when Alessa was burned. When she swallowed the aglo...something-or-other it caused the God to be given form/condensed in order to be expelled. With Claudia it could be the same thing, but in reverse. Swallowing it could have caused the foetus to infect every cell in her body, rather than somehow finding it's way into her womb. After all, Claudia, and at times Heather, is then shown to have those weird oozy-squiggly things all over her skin. Personally I think it's a better theory than thinking the foetus somehow found it's way here from there, and back again with Claudia.

SH3 gross? Hmm, nah. Abstract, strange, and disturbing? Yes.

I would say the latter describes SH3 better. Yeah a fetus gets thrown up and eaten but hell even that scene isn't that gross compared to other things. Go watch the japanese horror movie "dumplings" from "three extremes". That's much worse.

that movie is about eating aborted fetuses to maintain a youthful look.

Well, the movie "Dumplings" was Chinese, but more to the point...

Yeah, I would say that movie is worse than the part when Claudia ate the fetus. For one, you didn't really see much but you got the idea. In my opinion it's just as revolting to not see it.

Parts of SH3 are gross if you don't watch that many horror movies or play games where peoples heads explode a lot. So until I did those things I found SH3 pretty gross.

Also, about the Fetus scene.

I recall someone making a joke about 2 girls and 1 god.

oh no!!! The scene is still mentally disturbing!

2 girls 1 god xD

I can't watch most horror movies like,i find movies like SAW just stupid mindless insanity.I don't have beef with Silent Hill though, maybe because its more psychological/thriller and the violence kind of has a meaning too be there as opposed to some deranged phycho slasher whos invincible and the only plot involved is how everyones going to die and that you should keep your car serviced frequently.

When I first played I thought the numb body sound was very unsettling... that combined with the fact that you are in close quarters with them was a bit claustrophobic.
It's a damn shame the way people mistreat such nice things...

I found SH3 the most disturbing game of all series. The "sick" and "gross" features just made the game powerful and full of energy, it just crawls under your skin and it really depicts the true SH rapsody of emotions, the past, dreams, nightmares and the art of manifestation.

People who don't "feel" SH will find it "gross" and "sick", while those who do will find them epic (of course, by being conscious of its disturbance) .

I've watched that movie, it definitely made me cover my mouth and I'm pretty immune to gore/gross-out effects etc. As far as SH3 goes I didn't find it gross exactly but definitelt disturbing in a highly good way. For some reason one of the things that always made me squeamish in the game is one of the game-over movies where somethng (Valtiel I think?) is dragging Heather away and her legs are slightly apart. I don't know why but it activates my highly deranged imagination in disturbing ways.
I enjoy gross if it's done in the right way. There's a fine line between horror and going for shock value.

As it is, the SH games have some kinda disturbing imagery, especially where the faint of heart are concerned, so them being gross is a highly subjective thing, depending on the person.
Me? I have an ironclad stomach. I can watch the goriest movies ever made while eating strawberry shortcake, so I'd really love it if they would make a Silent Hill game as gory as they could possibly dream up.

Don't get me wrong, gore in real-life DOES gross me out, but in a game or a movie, I know it's all fake, so the gorier the merrier for me.

After they determined that violence in games can't be censored from kids in the USA, they could make a new Silent Hill game be a real gore-fest......though, I'm not sure "gore" would be classified in the same respect as "violence".....hmm.

But don't just make something gory for gore's sake, it would have to have a decent story to go along with it. I mean, I've watched a few movies that people claimed were the goriest ever, but the movie was so ridiculously bad plot-wise, that the lame story overshadowed any gore it had. It's pretty hard to be grossed-out when you are laughing uncontrollably at how hokey the story is, you know what I mean?

I think the Silent Hill storyline could support a true gore-fest very well. Don't you?
