Re: Is Silent Hill 3 the scariest SH?
I think it has the scariest monsters, but overall, SH 1 is.

I find the 3rd game to be the one with the most boo scares. It also seems to be the one with the most gore. I have to say, running away from the mist was horrific for me. lol

It is arguarbly the scariest, although that is pretty subjective as to what scares a certain person. But I'd have to say it is the best one by far
Re: Is Silent Hill 3 the scariest SH?
I do believe SH3 is by far the scariest. But once you get that awesome lightsaber and the HEZZAH BEAM, the scare value drops a little. Ha ha.

I get kind of caught between which is the scariest between 1 and 3. 1 might be the scariest if I keep the music on high cause the music for 1 definitely sets up the "Holy shit, now I'm paranoid!" kind of atmosphere for me. SH3 on the other hand has just general ambient noises that absolutely rank up the scare factor for me. I still to this day feel it's the game with the best sound design.

Course I have. By boo scares I don't mean cheap arse scares that Homecoming had, I mean proper boo scares that actually scare the shit out of you. lol The manniquin head falling off and screaming would be a good example. And even gore wise the enviroments are alot more blood stained than the rest.SPRINGS02 wrote:^ you haven't played homecoming have you?

Yes, I felt the environments in Homecoming were too "clean". The gritty and dirty environments in the past games helped make them feel much more disturbing. And I really wished they brought back the motion capture animations, because it made the characters feel more lifelike and unpredictable. Vincent was a very good example of this.

^hmm, yeah the graphics were absolutely amazing in the 3rd one. Motion capture definitely made the game look 10X better.

It's amazing that they did motion capture in the earlier ones and not in Homecoming. They were so ahead of their time I guess.

Yeah, Team Silent seemed much more passionate with their work. They always were crazy with all the details in the Silent Hill games. Like Vincent's eyes with one looking directly at you and one looking away.

This is pretty off topic I'm sorry but I just did an image search on Insane Cancers and I got the grossest fan art picture I've ever seen.
Re: Is Silent Hill 3 the scariest SH?
Uh, wow. Maybe you can give details on how the fanart looks? Don't post the pic though. I'm a bit squeamish.

Or perhaps just a link to it. I'd like to see it long as it's non-pornographic. I could NOT handle Insane Cancer X Heather porn... just not in the mental cards for me. Ew.
Speaking of fanart, this game gets some pretty terrible submissions on the Internet. It's kind of funny to see some images drawn by the younger players.

Re: Is Silent Hill 3 the scariest SH?
That's exactly what it was.
Re: Is Silent Hill 3 the scariest SH?
I started playing Silent Hill 3 on Hallowe'en night. As I was in the middle of the opening shopping mall level - which really is an excellent way to start - and I was feeling a bit creeped out, I then had to go out alone to a deserted shopping centre. There was the tiniest hint of mist and church bells ringing in the background. Someone was setting off sudden loud firework bangs very close nearby, but I never once saw where they were coming from. In the silence I could also hear some freaky noises I couldn't identify.
That was one awesome atmosphere, I was loving it. But the game was much more disturbing.

Yeah, I have moments like that too. It sorta makes you feel like you're in a movie, or inside a Silent Hill game yourself.I started playing Silent Hill 3 on Hallowe'en night. Eggnog, I thought I liked you, but now we can't be friends. haha. Only kidding, I want to see it too... out of, ahem... uhm... PURE curiosity.
Speaking of Silent Hill moments... I was in a gigantic mall during closing on the top floor. My girlfriend and I went into our own seperate restrooms, and I took a while to come out. When I got out, the entire top floor was closed down and the lights were all out. It makes sense now that I think about it... there are no stores on that level, just bathrooms, and an entrance to an ice skating rink... And I realized I had no idea where my GF was. She wasn't outside the bathroom waiting nor on the floor at all. I had to creep through the darkness (mild darkness) to try and find her, and then I heard a frickin' boom from the women's restroom. Out of respect, I only opened the door slightly and called her name into it... and all I could hear was this monotonous liquid and shuffling sound.
I MENTRALLY FREAKED MYSELF OUT, and as I was getting ready to bust into the bathroom to see if her body was there (I thought FOR SURE she was attacked), she finally comes out of the bathroom. Turns out that the cleaning lady accidentally blockaded her into the bathroom stall, and she was too embarressed to ask for teh woman to move her cart, so she waited. The noises I heard was the cleaning lady doing some severe cleaning, haha.
We should make a seperate thread about this. I have more than one story like this.

Anyway, i disagree about SH3 being the "scariest" i think it probably had the most gore but that to me doesn't make something scary. I found SH2 way creepier and it really got under my skin, although i did enjoy SH3 i think the blood and guts was sometimes a bit much.
Your comment about SH1 not being scary because the graphics aren't as good is frankly ridiculous. Although i have never played SH1 (i know) i wouldn't dismiss it purely because the graphics aren't as good. After all if there wasn't SH1 there wouldn't have been SH3, or the SH3 that you think is the scariest.
