I,ve got to say graphics play an inportant role in immersing you into a game but few people appreciate the work gone into sh3. for now i,ll leave this unanswer for now but go play silent hill 3 check out the part where heather is in the bathroom at the begging of the game and check out her mirror image and the movement of her body then check out duke nukem forever mirror image also dead space 2 it,s hard to find a mirror in that game so just go to a living quarter and check out isaac,s amazing mirror image.
Here,s part two silent hill was made in 2003 dead space 2 and duke nukem forever was made in 2011 that,s 8 years of technical advancement but duke nukem,s mirror image has no body movement it,s like a cardboard cut out. And dead space 2 has no mirror image yes that,s right it,s just a picture of the surroundings of the room your in.
the point i,am making is it,s the little things that make anything like for instants shadows in cgi movies.

I think you're saying the graphics in Silent Hill are pretty good. Well, I agree with you on that one

Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary!
I find that story & lore immerse me most, I find graphics to be a simple representation unless it's rich and detailed, in which case that makes it art. I've been playing older games a lot recenlty, and it seems that they are most powerful, giving you more room to use your imagination. The stories dragging you along, shaping your mind to see things differently, giving them your own touch, your own interpretation.
So, did you play the first silent hill, were the graphics bothering you all the time? Did you stop to say "Harry has a block head, or graphics are terrible" every fire minutes? Seems like Silent Hill 1 is a game that graphicaly spoiled gamers wound'nt even touch.

^So a guy saying that he's impressed with the work that went into creating the graphics, specifically with regards to the detailed reflections, of SH3 must automatically be a graphics whore?

I'm honestly not even sure what to make of this thread. I guess the mirrors are nice? Most games have been able to replicate the illusion of a mirrored image for quite a long time, now. SH3 has the scariest mirror of any game, so I guess that's worth noting. Are silenthillking and Sergiy the same member?

I don't think so... Unless I got split-personality disorder or something... Which is a possibility... Jokes aside, I've been a member here for quite a time. stopped_clock wrote: ^So a guy saying that he's impressed with the work that went into creating the graphics, specifically with regards to the detailed reflections, of SH3 must automatically be a graphics whore? No, a guy saying graphics very important to immersion, not accusing anyone...Yet!

Also, spoilers are your friend, and since you're addressing people who have never played Silent Hill 3 in the OP, but provide a spoiler that you didn't put inside a spoiler...you should def. mark your spoilers. Wow, I said spoiler a lot.

You just did such a fine job copying them that I was pretty sure it was intentional, but I wanted to be certain. The way the OP writes in a "poem-like" fashion. . . The way the OP adress his/her thoughts. . . The word "mirror" repeats itself 6 times. . . Duke Nukem. Forever.
. . .
The cake is a lie. Here's your fucking pudding, Angelica.

I'm not exactly sure what's happening here, but I do know I adore the mirror graphics in SH3. Typographenia wrote: SH3 has the scariest mirror of any game, so I guess that's worth noting. Certainly. I had seen many mirrors done well in games before SH3's time, but nothing that came close to how well they executed the purpose of the mirror in SH3. Even RE1's mirror in that room where you get the extra costumes isn't as freakish and psychedelic.

I actually noticed the "no mirror" effect in Dead Space2...i know it's a small issue, but i was kinda shocked that aspect was overlooked.....being that how most horror games uses the scary mirror scene mechanic alot, it's a bit puzzling the reflection of Issac wasn't even implemented.
Even if it wasn't for a scary effect, i think it should've been used just for it to keep itself in line with real world physics....i stood in that mirror quite a few times hoping to see Issacs reflection...it didn't break that game by any means tho..because where it feel short in the mirror effects, everything else was visually impressive.... the sprawl itself was amazingly detailed...
That said SH3 still is the best looking SH game to date...the Heather and Douglas characters are still some incredibly strong looking player models...they used some really slick texturizing techniques that made them have real skin imperfections(freckles/wrinkles..etc) and unlike the super smooth plastic looking models of today's current gaming models...
