Again, Harry's story is written for a game you play, once things turn into a movie they need to be on a bigger scale, else it'd get boring, games have to be changed to become movies else they'll suck for everybody but the game fans, just some changes are more welcome to fans than others.

Silent Hill was a superb movie, any complaints about it I'd say are trivial and wouldn't come from anybody who hasn't played it.

Have you read Roger Eberts review? He said you had to be a fan of the game to enjoy it, it wasn't a film most critics liked.

I almost agree with him. Many of my friends hated the movie until I was watching it with them, explaining why the things were happening. Most people don't seem to know what the hell is going on, and they are stuck in the "well they must be dead" mode. Also, the three Alessas dynamic seems to baffle most people. It seems the general movie going public cannot infer things, and they generally prefer their plots spoon-fed to them, with no need to infer or speculate. For example, many people didn't like the Watchmen because they didn't "get it". What's to get?

Seemed more like a smaller scale. The movie ended at what would essentially have been the second "level" of the game.

I think most people are unable to handle the concept of a largely metaphorical movie where the metaphors are more obvious than what's really going on. All the clues as to what's really going on are given (all townpeople age, Dark Alessa refers to herself as 'the dark part of Alessa', Sharon is referred to as what's left of Alessa's goodness) but people can't stand learning that their initial impression was wrong. That's why you get people insisting Dark Alessa is the devil and Sharon is Alessa's daughter.

Yeah, and the whole "ooooh, I get it! they were dead the whole time!!" thing just grinds my gears to dust. They actually say quite blatantly that there were no bodies found and no evidence of foul play.

Not to mention that Anna's mother and the tall black haired cultist are both seen in the flashback and have clearly aged, Alessa has breasts and an adult body now, Dahlia has clearly aged, and Christabella has a giant streak of white in her hair that wasn't there. Not to mention that Anna herself is a plothole in that theory because she wouldn't exist if they were dead. i had some guy claim Anna was middle aged on IMDB a while ago while trying to prove the townspeople were dead.

IMDB is basically just a bunch of monkeys flingin poo at eachother. Most of my frustration with people who didn't understand the movie stems from my experience on the IMDB Silent Hill boards. Tried to tell me the games didn't matter, tried to tell me the movie made no sense. bah!

I have an FAQ up on the movie page on IMDB which gets more compliments from people than idiots who insist I'm wrong, despite having fortified my answers with quotes from the cast and crew, screenshots, and evidences from the movie itself. Unfortunately, it's now sitting on top of 20 pages of deleted posts as a troll pretending to be Christophe Gans had the thread deleted and I got it put back up- but they only put back the original post.

I can remember when Silent Hill hand't come out yet and was highly anticipated and discussed on the IMDB boards, some dude came and told us all of these things about the movie. Claimed he had seen it somehow. Everyone (Silent Hill fans, no one else really cared) thought it was bullshit and they flamed the hell out of him till he took off. But when the movie came out, it turned out every single thing he said was true

Movieman!!!! Yes, I remember that too, SilentHylian tore him to pieces and the poor guy went and deleted his account and it turned out he was right all along.

Hell yeah! I remember when he told us about the song "ring of fire" being in the movie and SilentHylian just layed into him. I felt so bad for the dude after I saw the movie. I love how everyone was just like "he was right?!" and 'Hylian was just like "oops.."

No, he wasn't like Oops. To this day, he still declares that Movieman saw the Starz special and put it all together from there.

Oh, my memory is a bit foggy... Well everyone else was sure "oops"ing.

You know, I saw that Starz special too, and there was definitely no Johnny Cash in there. He had to have seen the movie somehow. That would just be too big of a coincidence. Who thinks of Silent Hill and infers that a Johnny Cash song would be in there? Not I.

I totally agree. Plus, he knew about Alessa's revenge scene, which no one knew about until the movie's release.

That and many other things. Fuckin 'Hylian should have been like oops, he was totally wrong there. It's really quite funny

If you look at the Movie Theories sticky on this board, SilentHylian mentions the Movieman hubbub on one of the first pages.

Can you believe that was 2006? That was a while ago. Man remember when they had that contest or something where people could go to a pre-screening and like half the people couldn't get in? SilentHylian was one of the ones who did I believe.

I wonder who MovieMan was? How the hell did he see the movie?
Wouldn't it be funny if it had turned out to be Gans himself?

I don't know anybody who didn't like it...

...Except some people on here.

You know, there aren't as many people who didn't like it as people who didn't get it.

Yeah, and I remember the poster contest too. I can't seem to find SilentHylian's post about Movieman, though I'm certain it's in the Theories thread. Bah, I have reading to do for class tomorrow, I'll look later.
