Another update from Trixcee Star on IMDB. Could be BS but no other news so here is what she says:
Brief Update: Sad to report but I guess filming is on hold for at least another month. No other reason given other than more time is needed to prep for filming and pre-production. They have a director and are finishing up casting, while Roger Avary is being allowed to finish up some last minute touches on this script. I don't know how the prison system works for famous people and working during their incarceration- but the script is finished and all they need is some touching up on the shooting draft. I'm sure Sony would like him to be involved as much as possible with this film, even behind bars. Last but not least, we will get something official during this years Comic-Con and for those of you complaining about the 3D... you can relax- they will not be filming "Silent Hill: Part 2" in 3D.
So, good news for the 3D haters !

I'm curious as to who the director is. The date for filming (both from Trixee and from Carmody's interview) makes it impossible for Avary to be directing, so it's got to be someone else. But who?

I wonder what Paul W. S. Anderson would do with it if he were director?

Honestly, I think they would have mentioned it a lot earlier if it was David Lynch. I'm curious as to why they're keeping the director under wraps, but I'm guessing it's probably not a good thing.

Not even Lynch could salvage a script written by Roger Avary. We're doomed.

......

I'm still excited this is happening though. Stupid optimism.

I think Avery did a good job on the first film. Just he's not great at writing dialogue.

I don't see why people complain about the script so much, beyond anything Sharon says (and we know half of it was made up by Jodelle at the last minute). Horror movies don't need to have people quoting Shakespeare or saying ultra-intelligent or deep things every time they open their mouths. If you're a normal person, you're going to be repeating stuff, you're going to be stating the obvious, you're going to be saying stupid things. That's how normal people are, especially in stressful situations. No one claimed Rose was a rocket scientist - she's a stay at home mom who wears expensive clothes and lives in an expensive house. If a real Rose existed, I'm quite certain she would talk just like the movie character does. And I'm pretty sure a bunch of country rednecks who've spent the last 30 years living in seclusion probably are going to talk like Christabella and Co. The only times that the script needed to be deep and intelligent (Alessa's story, Dark Alessa's speech, Rose's speech), it was.

^Thats indeed true :P
Also, the original script had better dialogue IMO, but it had to be changed, so it's not impossible it got a bit screwy in the process

The speech wasn't that bad anyway. Whenever people bring up the dialogue, they always cite Anna as "sounding like some inbred retard." ...Um...SHE IS.

Thought I'd add this here since it doesn't seem big enough to get its own thread

Radha Mitchell knows nothing about a possible sequel as of February:

Maybe. I just happened to stumble across that interview on Bloody Disgusting, so thought I'd post it.

ETA: Jodelle Ferland just posted that she's going to be filming a movie called Mighty Fine this summer, so it looks like she won't be Alessa this time around. That's if they're sticking to the summer schedule, of course.
