AFAIK, Bassett has never said anything about the Order, or even about the first movie's cult for that matter. Gans was the one who said the Order and the movie cult are two different, opposing entities, and that the woman in the hotel painting being burned alive is Jennifer Carroll. Whether Bassett does anything with this, who knows? But seeing as Alessa probably murderdeathkilled all of the other cult, it makes sense to bring in the Order.
