I just want it to be fun. Not much to ask.

I was pretty damn wary of this game from the start. It's unlikely I'll own a Vita for a while, but depending on the quality of this game if/when I do buy one, I'll likely buy it.

The major thing I want though is for it not to be more than it should be when it comes to the series canon. By what I've read they won't be doing this. I guess they'll just have little tidbits of info here and there about the towns history and such?

I think that's pretty cool as long as they lay off the crack pipe while they were deciding what info to add. Nothing like Alessa is really Pyramid Head's brother or some crazy shit.

The idea of being able to play a multiplayer SH game with other fans and actually have fun is alright with me. It's still kinda ridiculous though~

I worded that badly, but I think the point should be obvious, it is, as it was intended to be, a different type of experience within the series. A huge difference being the lack of darkness.

This aspect of Silent Hill has been way overblown by fans as it isn't even true in the original 4 games for every single monster.

I agree with this as well, I dont think there are any solid barriers preventing some monsters to cross over some of the time. People shouldnt think of Silent Hill as having concrete rules for what can or can't happen. That's why I never made too much fuss about PH showing up again. I still think the classic PH is cooler than 'bodybuilder with wrong shape helmet and ass hanging out' version though....

I want lots of options for customization of my character! It would be cool if there were extra unlockable clothing options for your character to use in subsequent playthroughs; like a badge of accomplishment that other players can see.

Tomm said Valtiel would be present at the start of levels to issue optional challenges to the player. Perhaps for fulfilling one of Valtiel's requests he could give me a nice Valtiel-styled ceremonial robe to wear? :)

The series has had 2D controls since Silent Hill 2.

^ Yes, but they weren't mandatory and I always found the 3D controls much more preferable. I actually thought standard 3D controls with the option of 2D was the best way to go.

Honestly, IMO the only thing that really matters is that it's a good game. I don't think this game was a good idea, and I certainly don't think it will be a good horror game, but hey... at least it shows that Konami still cares about keeping the Silent Hill IP alive.

Out of curiosity, why do you find them preferable? Compared to pushing the control stick in the direction you want to go, you have to turn and hope you don't overshoot where you want to go, and it's quite unwieldy, in my opinion.

Which is why BoM uses the SH2 version.

I've been playing the first SH and RE since I was fiarly young so I'm very used to it for survival horror games. They also somehow feel more realistic to me and more like I'm controlling a human. When I switch to the 2D controls I feel more like I'm playing something like Ratchet and Clank or Banjo Kazooie. Also, you can shoot while walking backwards, and I'm not sure that you can strafe in 2D control mode (an ability that feels very useful in SH3). Also, I always use the d-pad instead of the analog stick.

Well, if you have free camera control then there's no point to them. But for games with dynamic camera angles, 3-D control is nice to have. With analog control, you end up with the problem of pressing in the direction you want to go, then having the camera angle change and suddenly pressing in the wrong direction... but tank controls are perfect for this situation, because forward is always forward.

I like what Fatal Frame does, it gives you 2-D (analog) control, but also gives you a button to run forward which helps a lot with the changing camera angles. I actually think the ideal controls for this sort of game is a combination of both control schemes. But unfortunately now a days most games give up on the concept of the cinematic camera, and just plant the camera behind your head, which is kind of boring IMO.

My main problem about Book of Memories is that it is only coming out for the "Vita" or whatever it is. WHy can't it come out for another system. I'll probably never get to play the Book of Memories unless it comes out for another system.

Also, why are there different characters if there are the same monsters? Thats just weird.

I'm very disappointed with Konami's decision on this one.

.

Switch from 3D to 2D controls. More focus on combat. Not once running around the town. Much of the game not being in Silent Hill. Limited item management. Ghosts. Portals. Charge attacks. Not being abale to go into a menu to equip things or use items. Fewer puzzles. No otherworld, at least not like the other games. Different structure of redoing levels. More unkillable enemies. Only one boss. More focus on meele weapons. A room that heals you. Less focus on maps. No flashlight or radio. A multi-hour escort where the person with you can't die, can be cursed, and can use weapons. Silver bullets. Can't use directional buttons for movement. A lot less 'get this item to unlock this to get this to use on that to get etc.' gameplay, which to me is what makes a game a survial horror game, therefore... Not a survival horror game. No UFO ending. So different that people thought it wasn't originally intended to be a SH game. Less American horror style. Watching people do mundane things. First person portions. Much of main plot told through memos.

The list goes on and on and on. Silent hill 4 was way, way different from the previous games.

Why are you ragging on Silent Hill 4? It is part of the best series of all time. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. That makes Silent Hill very strong. Silent Hill 4 was a great game....SO STOP MAKING FUN OF IT. (By the way I'm not saying that Silent Hill 4 was "the weakest link".)

I dont think they were ragging on 4, just pointing out the differences. 4 really just needed more attention in a few places, but yeah it's one of the good ones. I especially enjoy the art and design.

The problem is that this seems to be more of a pony show of classic monsters for fanservice. It's like Marvel Vs. Capcom.

Don't give konami anymore ideas. They just decided to axe Hudson, so who knows what they'll do next.

Resident Evil Vs. Silent Hill!

It would only be a little stupider than Book Of Fanservice looks.

Post subject:  Re: What do you want from BoM?

I would so buy that.
However, that would involve both Capcom and Konami working together to release something. It will be a disaster. MAKE IT SO!

Maybe it's because of all of the gameboy/color/advance spinoff games that I passed by during my years, but games like this don't bother me. It just felt like the direct to vhs sequels of the things I really liked, so I don't expect them to be that excellent. I try to just enjoy them for what they are.

Releasing it on a handheld system like Vita certainly does seem to reduce Book Of Bologna's importance somewhat, doesn't it?

Post subject:  Re: What do you want from BoM?

The reason for releasing it on a handheld and the emphasis on co-op could be part of an internal Konami decision to try and capatalize on the Monster Hunter and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker multiplayer craze that's currently all the rage in Japan.

Personally I look forward to a good SIlent Hill game that takes advantage of all the cool stuff Vita can do that the consoles cannot. But it doesn't look like Book of Memories will be it...

Handhelds by their very nature don't do anything for me. Whatever the Vita can do (I have no idea what since I haven't bothered paying attention to it), I just hate small screens and portable systems.

I don't dislike handhelds, but I don't look for the same type of games on them that I do on console/pc. Things like Phoenix Wright, Golden Sun, 999, and whatever else just strikes the right chords with me on their format. BoM is kind of on the fence for me because it's different enough of a SH game that I'm totally fine with it being on a handheld, but the gameplay makes me think it would be better suited for the arcade like a Smash TV or something.
