I wonder how many people hated Homecoming and say this crap looks good. lol
Lostkitsune wrote:Yeah I've been playing the demo on and off since Tuesday, it's pretty great. I know it gets a lot of hate just for being what it is but it has lots of little nods, it controls nice, the soundtrack and voiceacting is pretty great. and most of all its just fun?
It still felt like a Silent Hill title to me, but I don't keep my nostalgia goggles on so tight so.
Nope I looked at this and then homecoming and thought homecoming don't look that bad now.silenthell88 wrote:I wonder how many people hated Homecoming and say this crap looks good. lol
Keep in mind this isn't at all how the series is going to go, going forward. It's a spinoff.unreadphilosophy wrote:Homecoming was actually decent. It copied a lot of elements from the movie, but it did a good job at keeping the psychological horror and principles of the series in tow. I...I don't even know how to define this. All I can say is that this makes me want to continue praying that Kojima does, in fact, take over the series.
Damn you, westernization of games.
Wow..really? It's good to hear such a positive response from someone here. I was looking forward to making a friend with a Vita or it being ported to the PS3, so hopefully I'll get to play it.AuraTwilight wrote:So having actually played BoM a little bit...holy hell what a great game.

I'm glad you're enjoying the story!
It seems like you got to some point that really excited you about it. I'm curious what part it was, if you don't mind me asking. Not a lot of people are talking about the story so I'm eager to hear detailed thoughts.

I'm just really taken away with the first impression, and it hooked me enough to make me want to see things through. Obviously things aren't going to be as in-depth as a normal SH title, because both the player characters and the adventures themselves as entirely mutable, but I find that really interesting regardless.
Like, a lot of this seems to generally focus on the archetypal life obstacles of a college student-aged young adult, and the things they'd want to change in their lives, instead of some over the top murder thing, and in that sense it seems like you're trying to create a direct connection between the characters and the players, so that it's literally OUR adventure, like the scenes are supposed to be just vague enough that we can pretend they're referring to episodes in our own memories.
And really, if nothing else, I love that alone. I've always wanted to see the Otherworld investigate mindscapes of people who aren't suicidal murderers and stuff, and you're delivering that. I also liked how apparently the characters are dreaming while in the Otherworld SH4-style, because it lends a lot more freedom to what's going on.
The only thing I really want to know is what the deal with the Book of Memories is; where'd it come from, why did we receive it, how does it have it's power, etc. But those seem to be questions that aren't meant to be answered, and I suppose I'm fine with that.
One thing I've noticed is that character voices, backrounds, and apparent backstories seem to be effected by how you create your character. My guy, for instance, is accused of stealing money from a register at work, skipped out on work to spend time with his aunt, and generally has a lot of issues that seem to revolve around his entry-level job at some grocery store or something as well as his aunt, who seemed to have had a speaking role?
What I want to know is, if you can tell me without spoiling me, is how many "storylines" are there, or atleast "story pieces" that can be in my character's memory and backround? How will I know when I've seen them all?
Not that I'm going to stop playing this game once I see all the story content, mind you. X3 <3

You can keep track of the notes and Broadcasts you find in the Book. I will reveal more after people start beating the game. Rest assured the Book IS explained (as much as anything in SH is anyway).
The chapter specific notes (outside the opening and end notes) relate to that chapter's character, as do most of the broadcasts. There is one broadcast per chapter that features you, so you can learn how you and that character relate.
Just remember you are finding it all in fragments (like a dream!) so they are things to roll around in your head until you have time to wade through your archives.
Glad you are enjoying
Me wrote:This is all great to hear. Assuming I build characters with no overlapping 'backrounds', how many 'characters' would you say are in the game?
Also, speaking of the player-character connection, I heard one poster on Youtube speculate that the new lyrics of Love Psalm are representative of the bittersweet emotions of the fanbase, particularly in regards to the fans who wish the new games were never made, even if they had to sacrifice like SH4 or SH3 or something.
Is this intentional, a coincidental bonus alternate meaning, or is this person just completely bonkers?
Tomm wrote:The character you build will always be the same (the "Main character"), and what that means changes based on how you play. However if you start to play differently it will change--you don't need to reroll a new character.
Regarding Love Psalm, I would say that is a bonus alternate meaning. The song itself ties directly to the theme of the game, but it's definitely a theme many SH fans need to be exposed to.
(another bonus interpretation is taking its SH2 origin as a song between Mary and James)
