One of the game's more epic touches, IMO.

(I know this is touched upon in the Easter Egg thread, but figured it was worthy of it's own. Share others you've had here, too!)

I got one that said something like "You can't ignore it forever..."

l've seen "they know what you've done" and "she's lying." l know the ones that l saw made sense to Murphy, but "they never really loved you"? there's a letter later in the game full of disdain but l don't recall it saying anything about never loving him. is it possible the creators were trying to reach players with family issues? if that's the case (which l'm not saying it is, l hope it not to be) that's pretty sick, Chubbs. maybe something about St Maria's?

I don't think its made to reach anyone to anyone. I think they are made for people who don't pay attention to the tips and catch something odd like that. Like a "WTF" moment.

The first one I noticed was "STOP DOING THAT!"

And then from there on I paid attention to the loading screens more.

^really? a "stop doing that!" that's ridiculous.

maybe that one's pointed at Murphy on his "Terms of Enrampagement."

I don't think they are related to Murphy. I think it's supposed to be for the player themselves. Just a neat little extra.

The ones I have seen:

They never really loved you.
STOP DOING THAT
She is lying to you.
It knows you are alone.
Was it worth it?

My girlfriend was in the room while I was playing, and she mentioned that she was going to a party this weekend. I told her, "probably to bang some dude," and she responded, "nope," and as soon as she said that, She is lying to you popped up.

Judging from the context of the game and the various opinions about this, I'm guessing its just a corny little personal message. Weren't things like this present in Homecoming and maybe some other non-Silent Hill games?

not in Homecoming, no.

oh thank god I wasn't the only one, I literally was freaking out when that came out! XD I was playing at 3 in the morning (yeah..) and that popped out, I wasn't sure if it had happened or if it was my mind playing games on me since I was sleepy...I got one that said "they know when you're alone" or something like that..

I have to agree with teosoleil on this one.Just corny messages that pop out now and then to get your attention and freak you out a bit.

I actually had a funny story with those mesages. The first one I got was "Was it worth it?", I was all like "yeah, the wait for the game was worth it, funny you ask."

then came the creepy ones...

I was sitting biting my nails when the "stop doing that" one happened. I was like woah, geez, calm down ... And stopped biting my nails haha.

Haha, last night I was playing and I reached the Monastery. The nun says, "I'm sure He'll find your visit...enlightening." Then it goes to a loading screen and says, "She's lying to you." Well played, game! Well played.

ETA: Oh my. I just got one that said, "Why are you lying?" o_o; Whoa.

One day someone will get one thats a yo momma joke. It would make Downpour the greatest game ever.

Has anyone found any relevence to these yet? They're interesting, but more so if they are there for more than....whatever they seem to be there for. lol

I think it's kind of like a Rorshach test, something that each player takes his or her own way. The best kind of game plays you as you play it.
