I don't want to start rumors, but it is very likely that Masahiro Ito is currently busy with another (game) project. I made a thread about it here.

It looks very interesting tho, it is new title in continuation with the spirit of the Clock Tower series (from snes era) from their original maker Hifumi Kouno and also Takashi Shimizu (director of Ju-On: The Grudge) is involved. Name of Resident Evil's Shinji Mikami also popped up but I don't know if he is personally involved.

But from the video material and Ito's twitter we can be quite sure that he is deeply involved, and is creating monsters and art for the game.

I hope that this won't affect his decision if he is asked to help out with Silent Hills

I doubt Nightcall will take up much of Ito's time, and his main work is probably already finished. But I imagine the monster creation will probably be left to Del Toro who loves that sort of thing, so it's doubtful Ito will return.

Hiroyuki Owaku, on the other hand... I hope Kojima brings in...

Maybe I'm just pessimistic (it's likely) but the thought of this still doesn't sit right with me having thought about it since the announcement. From my admittedly limited knowledge of his work, his creature designs seem to lean more towards high fantasy.

I feel that Del Toro's design is more sci-fi than psychological horror. I really hope the environment will be more "Silent Hill like" in atmosphere. I know that Ito-san made props and background settings for the games too, not only monsters, so his presence could at least influence the setting.

I know that a fresh view of the series is something that people also want to see, but I can't help but to think about the disappointments that the series has had during the last sequels. I really want to be back in the town of Silent Hill and it's atmosphere with it's rich back story and improved 2010's graphics.

Nope.

And I wouldn't expect anything at all until after MGSV is out. Your best bet would be TGS, but I'd probably guess nothing until next year, and likely Konami might still be emphasizing MGSV and DLC content for MGO.

Del Toro will also be busy with his new film's promotion too, so likely any major developments won't happen until the end of the year.

Though maybe, just maybe with all the big focus on VR happening at GDC, we may have a chance of seeing P.T. on Morpheus as I think Sony would want to try and demo that given its popularity and obvious compatibility with a VR experience. But it would be on Konami and Kojima's end to do it, so who knows?

That's an interesting bunch of names, i hope mashiro ito comes along too. That would be a huge deal. Seems like hideo just brought his metal gear team with him, which is fine. I consider those great games, but i'll be interested to see how they translate to a silent hill game. I'd say they're looking pretty good right now though, considering how great P.T. was.

Hmmm...Agree with 1, disagree with 2, agree with 3, 4 and 5 and i don't think 6 would happen, not even kojima would stick that type of character in a sh game.

It's an old article which just repeats common complaints/requests.

In terms of #1:
Combat is a tricky thing for a game where you need to explore and go back and forth doing puzzles. It depends on design.

If you want classic puzzle solving like in the previous games then stealth and running away are pointless mechanisms. These only work if you can continuously progress without needing to backtrack. So it's preferable to be faced with combat or a system where you can deter, trap or vanquish enemies a la exorcisms or swords like in SH4. Strategy would be a more compelling element.

Stealth or running away can be accomplished outdoors in areas that you can simply traverse to get to another section or during more cinematic sections. But indoors and for areas where you need to explore intimate spaces, it would only help so far as you need to get away from a danger, but in the end you need to confront them. And a simple shooting/melee/dodge system works best. Something you don't have to think to hard about.

#2:
A reboot isn't to my liking, but may be necessary given a;; the complications we've been through to establish a new mythos of sorts where consistency can be maintained. That said if they're going for something new they should really take it in new interesting areas without being too beholden to the old. I think it's hilarious that the writer seems to think the cult aspect was grating as of SH3, which was only the 2nd game involving it and was not heavy and actually extremely interesting, so it seems he's just repeating common complaints without any specific rationale.

#4:
Frankly I want Kojima to go through Konami and make it a point to bring Owaku back.

While the reluctance is understandable towards having Kojima writing, it's a bit unfair. Mostly because we only have reference to just one game series he's worked on that has consistently tried maintaining its tone and stylings far past what Kojima intended it to be and has wanted to move on from but was trapped into returning to. So it'd be unfair to say he'd write a hypothetical Silent Hill the same way he'd do MGS; and Kojima wasn't the only writer involved in MGS anyway, there are multiple and it's usually somebody else's job to do the lore fact checking to maintain consistency as Kojima himself admits that not even he knows everything contained in the MGS mythos as he obviously didn't write all of it. MGS deals with a lot of conspiracy and technobabble, which is it's thing. MGS2's story was intended to convey the complex buildup of ideas, competing beliefs, conspiracies within conspiracies, and junk information. Thus the Patriots came to be as a mechanism for memetic natural selection. MGS2 wasn't crazy for the sake of being crazy. It intended to blur the line between reality, the supernatural, the virtual, all to put the player in a state of confusion challenging his beliefs and making him more susceptible to the solution posed by the Patriots who with precise technical precision deconstructed and took it apart. MGS2 is absolutely ingenious! But sadly all people take away from it is the intentionally bizarre and the complicated topics that were never supposed to ever have an explanation other than what the player prefers. This is what Kojima can accomplish when set free rather than being reigned in by fan backlash. MGS4 is literally a game about its creator being fed up with the industry and being a prisoner of fate. The game offered up everything fans wanted with sparkles and happy bows and endings. It seems campy, but behind it there's a real cynicism. Fans got what they wanted and surprise! MGS4 didn't turn out as they imagined. But looking at it from the cynical view of Kojima, I'm starting to gain more appreciation for it more so as an insight into its creator.

Either way, It's doubtful Kojima would be involved in the script and would probably only contribute to a collaborative outline with Del Toro along with some ideas. Most likely there will be someone else attached to do the more in-depth stuff based on a Del Toro/Kojima outline. I'd be surprised if Del Toro has time to write an entire game script. Perhaps a large chunk of the outline might be his, but in terms of how games develop there are always tweaks and rewriting being done to accommodate development changes so it's more likely that there'll be another KojiPro writer(s) assigned to this with final input from Kojima. I see Del Toro as more involved in directing the cutscenes and Reedus at KojiPro LA.

#5 - doubt anybody would really object.

#6 I'm feeling confident Reedus' role won't be just a repeat of Daryl. But who knows?
