SH3: Why isn't my t-shirt showing up?

I'm in the extra new game and I found the code for the "Don't Touch" shirt in the magazine in the locker room. I put entered it in soon afterwards, it informed me that I entered it successfully, and now the shirt is nowhere to be found. Do I have to start a new game to equip it?
Desperately seeking a real abandoned city, preferably in New Jersey or the tri-state area, where I can live out my Silent Hill fantasies. The Chernobyl Exclusion Zone looks promising but it's kinda far...

It will be in your inventory after you start a new game.
