What gets me is why she wandered outside to do the fly whatting dance in front of his appartment. It kinda looks like an Irish jig at different angles.

I think it was just to ease the tension in SH4 because really without little scenes like that the game would be one big horror/mystery/thriller game. Well thats what type of game it is but like I said it takes you out of a tense/shaken mode and lets you see a little humor before all the haunting, etc. start picking up...

Sometimes I think that people look into things too much, not only on this thread but on others. Not everything is going to hold importance to the story line, characters, or previous games alot of it is out of fun and people just make it harder than it really is...

Wow... what a read.

First of all I haven't been to this forum in quite a while. How you all doing?

Okay, much to talk about.

I totally enjoy trying to find things that have subtle meanings in games/movies/plays. I read most the theories and here's the conclusion I have come too.

I believe if you look at the game from two different angles either way of playing them could be fun. If I look at it from a 'Eileen has seen him a few times in the hallway and thinks he's cute' way playing the game is like playing a blooming love story, from the first look, to the first real interaction. The contrast of this idea is interesting. I'm a bit silly, but it kinda reminds me of "While You Were Sleeping." She was kinda excited (I know they don't show this in the game, but just read the rest of my post) to see him everyday, but didn't really wanna go out of her way to talk to him or anything and then something huge happens that slam their worlds together. (Granted the rest of the story did a different turn, psh, chick flick anyway) ANYWHO! The idea of her even just finding him a bit attractive makes the game a bit more fun for me to play. Though I understand where the same idea wouldn't be found by other people. And that is their own opinion and I understand that.

However, until the other day when talking about this same concept, I didn't even really come to that conclusion about Eileen and Henry. I was always under the impression (Though the hopeless romantic in me tells me otherwise now) that when she dropped the groceries and she said the 'lucky' line she was talking about how she hoped her 'luck' kinda like her 'smoothness' would be better... meaning she hopes she isn't as clumsy at the party. Her looking at the door may be just because she is kinda curious about the room. Hey, if I walked past this room that made wierd sounds I would look at it everytime too.

The theory that perhaps she was going to ask Henry to the party is a kinda fun theory as well. When I think about it now she could have been asking him as a date or just because she wanted to see if he needed out of the house since she hadn't seen him a while. Probably hoping he might come to the door. (You know that what happened before hadn't happened again.) If she dropped her groceries she could have easily been hitting herself for being so stupid in front of a stranger (had he answered the door)

If you don't believe in the asking theory, I've got another theory why she may have walked by the door. However due to the fact that I haven't fully beaten the game I won't go into that small theory. Heck, Mike could have thought she was cute as well and had asked her to drop him off groceries so he never had to leave his porno collection behind.
She could have also been checking on him too seeing as he has been skinned to death and also not coming out of his apartment
As for the bee thing. My sister is deathy afraid of bees and has been known to almost run away from them when they are around. Although I view my sister to be 'retarded' I know she's not and some people really do have fears like that of somethings... including the common smaller then a quarter bee.

I always felt that perhaps she is using something that isn't a broom to clean up whatever mess she left behind, during the infamous 'no broom' cleaning scene.

As for the love story as the game progresses, well I don't know it all yet. But hell if some halfway attractive guy from next door came bounding in to rescue me and killed a bunch of scary monsters to protect me while risking his own neck, I would fall for him pretty easy. (That reminds me of Shaun of the Dead tee-hee) However, perhaps there is no love story. Its all up to the players perspective and how they wish to look at the game.

However, when it comes to Eileen in general, I would have to say watching her behind the peeholes is really more so aimed at keeping the player understanding the feeling of being trapped into a world he cannot control with the real world so close to his fingertips. She represents what the character wants to much at the begining of the game, and that is to get out and live a simple life. She may laze around or attack bees in the hallway and we may find it odd, but to be a person trapped in a room with no way back to a normal world, what he wouldn't give for having no life and 'watching brooms.'

Okay... that was really long, but I couldn't summarize all the thoughts going through my mind when I read the post.

*Goes and sits down and shuts up*

Well, we are talking about a girl who claps as a seal in front of her TV and can't see a brrom in front of her...

>She could have also been checking on him too seeing as he has been skinned to death
Mike wasn't "skinned to death": Richard embarrassed him by skinning his clothes off, and by beating him up. Also, that happened a long time, when Walter was just a kid--some twenty+ years ago; Mike probably doesn't even live there any longer.

>Well, we are talking about a girl who...
That doesn't make her socially inept.

Ahh... see, I haven't played the game all the way through thus I didn't get that impression yet. I just listened to the tape and saw the paintings and thought otherwise. It makes more sense now to be honest, thanks for clearing that up.

If that is the case, which I was pretty sure it was... Perhaps the person that lives down there now did need some groceries, like an older person. Giving her reason to walk past the room.

I would also like to apologize for the randomness of my post. It was hard to keep a straight thought in my head so late at night :P

Hmmm...

I didn't think that anyone could really notice you in the hole except Walter. Besides, peepholes are hard to see from the other side of a door. I don't remember that scene...

One of the things I kinda liked about SH4 was the way it wasn't like, a Final Fantasy love story. It had every possibility to be and they could have like, kissed before the boss fight all poetic like, but it didn't and therefore was...well, more like Silent Hill than Final Fantasy with monsters.

Not saying there is or isn't anything, since it's totally possible; people don't always show their emotions on the outside, so it's really up to interpretation. However...I think towards the end they were at least friends. Nothing wrong with that, it wasn't necessary to beat us over the head with their undying love or something.

Btw, I don't mean that anyone was saying they had undying love...or whatever. This wasn't directed at anyone's side of the argument xD

As for the (sort of) original topic, yeah, Eileen acted a little weird, but honestly, if someone was watching you all day you might act weird too. She's alone in her apartment or (supposedly) in the hallway. Sometimes you do stupid things, especially alone and occasionally in public. It made her a human character, albeit one who had a few extra problems to deal with (ie - getting her ass handed to her 1000 times).

I'm doing a necro-bump here, but I wanted to address something Glazarus was adamant about when arguing in favour of Eileen liking Henry.

I'm replaying The Room, and according to Glazarus, Eileen looks at Henry's door--in fact he says "a direct look" at it--when she says "I hope my luck changes before the party," inferring that she's talking about HIM and her secret desire to go to the party with Henry. And I'm happy to say this is utter crap because not only is Eileen not looking at the peephole at all when she says this, she's walking away from the door, having spared only one glance at it when she said, "Oh man."

But apparently that "Oh man" is a declaration of her love.

Exactly. Doesn't mean "Henry's so~~~o dreamy but how I am supposed to ask him to the party now?, after I've embarrassed myself Oh Noes!!!"

Because, you know, that's dumb.

St. Thomas wrote:

Yes. Probably something dumb like Friends.

It's funny because I love Friends . . . I'm watching it right now in fact.

And no one ever bothered to show me proof that Eileen was looking for a "date" specifically--that she actually makes "a comment about needing a date for the party." Anybody got a magic copy of the script? 'cuz mine's still not saying it. Randall? Come on, I know you love to argue with me.

I always got the feeling that she knew that Henry was peeking and she wanted to tell us (the audience) that there's something more about her than what meets the eye.
Like if she was taunting Henry, or trying to scare him.

Physical appearance has nothing to do with the discussion: there's nothing to suggest they were interested in one another until the end of the game.

>she didnt even go to the party, did she?
No, I don't think she made it. She was invited to the hospital unconsciously instead. . . .
