How do you think they could of have improved Silent Hill 4?

Henry's locked in his apartment and can't get out. Bless.

I think the game is quite good, but every game has it's flaws, and this one is no exception. A few complaints:

1. Not dark enough for the most part. The subway level was too white.
2. the limited inventory. I wouldn't have minded if health drinks and bullets merged into one category and you could carry as many of those as you wanted. Oh well.
3. One of my biggest gripes is the monsters in the game. Some were nice, others, not so much.

-ghosts: It was an interesting idea, and they didn't bother me as much as I thought they would.
-sniffer dogs: They look fine appearance wise, but they should have made different sounds.
-wall men: Argh. So annoying! Plus, I really dislike the sounds they make.
-hummers: pointless, and rather stupid.
-twin victims: These things are freaky, and by far my favorite monster in the game.
-gum heads: These had potential, but they didn't really stand out to me.
-patients: Alright, until you hit one.
-wheelchairs: these are rather dumb. There should have at least been monsters or ghosts sitting in them.
-bottoms: while similar to twin victims, I thought they were just silly. Bottoms aren't anywhere near as strange as twin victims. They just make me go, WTF?

If I could redesign the game, there are some changes I'd make, in addition to changing the inventory and making the game a bit darker.

1. I'd change the worlds the second time, even going as far as to add new rooms.
2. I'd either give Henry some personality or make him smarter. He'd only say "What the hell?" once or twice.
3. The twin victims would make the noise they made in the game trailer.
4. Jasper wouldn't stutter, or at least not as bad, as that was rather annoying.
5. I'd completely redesign the patients, and get rid of the hummers and wheelchairs.
6. Eileen wouldn't whine as much.
7. Some hauntings would be redone or removed.
8. I'd also make Walter talk more, even if it was something really random. Like he would be standing outside Henry's apartment and say, "Mom, I want a cupcake."
9. Lastly, I'd add a mind bending puzzle or two.

Now for some silly stuff. I'd make a strange yet humorous ending, like SH2 dog ending strange. Also, there would be unlockable costumes for all the characters, and you'd be able to switch them at will. For example, you could make every single character in the game be wearing the nurse Eileen outfit, even characters who would look terrible wearing that. Yes, it would take away the atmosphere, but it would be interesting.

If I didn't completely suck balls at photoshop I'd make some altered screen shots of that.

Larger inventory, bigger missions on the return levels unless they were cut out, less and better weapons, stronger Eileen that takes less damage, gameplay similar to the other title's and level selection on puzzle modes.

1-better monster/ghost designs (the only ghost i really liked was cynthia, and the only monsters i liked were the twin face, and patients)
2-better creature sounds (burping patients falling down the steps was hilarious, not scary)
3-better gameplay (at least give option for 3d tank controls, and remove that charge attack)
4-get rid of the life bar
5-make the game darker, and bring the flashlight back
6-more fog, and keep that film grain for the noise affect throughout the entire game (you experience it only in the forest when you need to find that key, and i believe when travelling in the umbilical cord)

1. Make the ghosts a little less obnoxious to "defeat", and allow EVERY ghost to be defeated.

2. Change more things about the worlds the second time you visit to make it less tedious. ex - In SH2, there was blood, or a dead body, or something. Even if it doesn't have a meaning (or a completely obvious one) it would make it MUCH more interesting.

3. Eileen... don't make her HAVE to follow close to you.

4. Darker, and make it so you as the player are able to travel to the worlds, like let's say, start at the forest, follow a path, and end up at the Subway. Holes are stupid IMO.

1. The number 1 thing is to have a bigger inventory, plain simple this was the most annoying thing i encountered in the gameplay.

2. Defeatable Ghosts - having to run from them at all time was the biggest BS...

3. Having your house haunted half way thru the game like WTF - there were barely any health potions around to have these haunted stuff takign health away in our own home.

Im very picky when it comes to games and thats the only annoyance in SH4. Everything else is fine..

The one thing that really bothered me was that you didn't hear much about Walter's past. You actually had to dig around and really look for stuff in the game, online, and most of the stuff I "know" about Walter is just educated guesses and theories.

That's the main thing that bothered me. I wanted to understand his motives better, rather than just saying, "He's some crazy religious freak" :p

Oh, and the inventory thing really irritated me. I had to yell at the screen every time I was full. Grrrowl.

No ghosts.
An actual monster as the "Bogey Man." Walter just didn't cut it.
A darker atmosphere
Don't recycle levels during the later parts in the game that were there during the beginning parts.
No "nutrition" drink. It's fucking health drink!!!
A different protagonist. Henry sucks ass.
The fighting system was just too difficult to get used to.
Should be able to go back to your apartment to heal.
Should have unlimited space in your inventory.
Basically, the only good thing about it was the music.

^Course, if they did that, they probably would've removed the healing items. That would've been a pain in the ass to play out the game, and the final battle w/o any sort of healing items.

^Oh, I know. It just seems like I'm the only person that remembers the apartment heals you in the first half of the game. :D
Everyone is always so hung up on having to escort Eileen and *gasp* go through the same areas as previously.

It would appear that going to the deepest part of Walter is the ultimate pain in the ass. It's 3 fold, yo.

I shudder at the thought of a Silent Hill with no healing items. It would be like that very forgettable and annoying Riddick game.

Allow me to introduce you to Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. It has no healing items but time.

That first one really made me laugh. Those little kinda things annoyed me too.

Also, I was actually disappointed by how little music there was in the game. After the first couple games, the soundtracks didn't seem to be utilized to their full potential, although Origins did alright.

No limited item space, made the game really annoying.
Ghost were creepy but they got annoying because they used them too much. They should of used them more sporadically.
Walter was a bitch to beat if you wanted to save eileen, his stupid spin attack was bullshit.

I really liked the Walter boss fight. He was more challenging than most of the bosses in the series in my opinion and that's one of the things I enjoyed most about the game.

Still, I've never saved Eileen in the times I've played through that game.

I really enjoyed SH4, but I won't lie and say it didn't have faults:

*Limited inventory was abit of an annoyance
*I loved the set pieces, but felt they got abit lazy when you had to go threw them again. (although, I see a defence for as to why you go threw them again, but it isn't very good from a gameplay POV)

That's it really. I really enjoyed this game, and I think it's definitely the underrated one out of the series. In my opinion anyway. :P

That is why I save all my ammo, so I can POP A CAP IN HIS ASS, YO! MUTHAFUKA AIN'T GOT NUTHIN' ON ME! I FUCKED HIS ASS UP.

I got sick of playing the knocked-down-get-up-run-over-and-get-knocked-the-fuck-back-again game. Is I just shot at him while backing up out of his immediate reach. If you get too far, I *think* he shoots at Henry. Maybe? I need to go play it again.

^Yeah walter's a real bastard in that fight, i recently beat that game with my friend(who was hell bent on saving eileen) I put 5 revolver bullets in him, and then i hit him with 13 fully charged rusty axe strikes(my friend kept track of how many attacks it takes to kill him). It's all about timing, if you get to close he does his stupid "spin around in a circle attack" that knocks henry down and takes him forever to get up from, you have to dodge his bullets. And while you are doin a fully charged axe attack you're actually invincible during that animation which helps. When i saved eileen in this fight it was SO close, like if literally one more second would of passed she would of been a goner.

But yeah walter's an asshole during the last fight.
