^Well, we are talking about SH4 here. Perhaps chocolate milk should've been an option. ;)

@Soulless-Shadow: I meant... well, about midway through the game, you see Walter wandering around Forest and Apartment Worlds, and if you stand off and watch, he'll start killing these cougar-tentacle-dogs for no reason.
Plus, he seemed REALLY enthusiastic about beating Eileen to death WITH HIS BEAR HANDS! RAWR!

Im probably just underthinking, but I personaly think that the creators saw how unlike a silent hill game the rest was (even the hopital itself was not in the style of sh, textuarly) so they just put the wheelchairs in to remind them that it is a silent hill game as wheel chairs make a very common appearance in sh.

FUCK YEAH, DARK CHOCOLATE!!!

The wheelchairs are more of a symbol for Alessa.
But why they appear in the building world, i have no idea. The hospital, yeah, i get that

Well, I doubt that they are a symbol for Alessa in SH4, because Alessa has no influence over Walter's world.

I'ma dig a little. . .

The wheelchairs represent the crippled state of Alessa's mind, if I'm not wrong. Well, the same could apply to Walter.

In the past games (SH1 and SH3), the wheelchairs that were from Alessa didn't attacked the player or anything. That might be due to the fact that Alessa couldn't do a thing, she was trapped, facing her nightmares (actually not her, it was Harry/Heather facing her nightmares but still).

But the wheelchairs in SH4 attack the player. Why? Maybe because Walter's mind is so fucked up and in his land "he rules as a king", therefore he is free to unleash his, uh, everything. . .

But the wheelchairs have the same meaning for both of them.

I wasn't implying that Alessa is present in SH4. She is only mentioned.
All I said was that , in the other games, wheelchairs are a symbol for Alessa.

Does anyone here know what the wheelchairs represent?

I'm fucking with you lol ;)

Yeah, I agree that the wheelchairs represent Walter's crippled state of mind.
Though i will add that they also represent the way he is confined to a world in which he rules as king.
I remember a memo saying that even in his world, there are limitations..

I remember about this memo as well. That makes sense, good one.

To be honest (and a bit negative), I think the wheelchairs are the dumbest idea for an enemy in any SH game. Maybe any game I've ever played. Was Team Silent on crack or something? Can you imagine the thought process behind such a decision?

"Well, we always have wheelchairs, what if they attack you this time, instead of like, having to do with Alessa, or paying bitchin' visual homages to Session 9?"

It's insanity.

I'm sorry, are you implying that a Silent Hill game HAS to make sense?
AND you're implying that a Silent Hill exists that ISN'T insane!
WHAT? :D

I lolled, because for me personally, I couldn't agree more. Nothing like "evil wheelchairs" rollin' you DOWN. I mean there's a moment for Silent Hill to be strange and abstractly entrancing, but haunted wheelchairs honestly didn't cut it.

So, everyone, have we decided that the Wheelchairs are a cheap nostalgia tool used by Konami because they ran out of ideas? If so, then in a few days, I'll lock the thread.
If not, then the flamewars will continue unabated!

You know the haunted wheelchair idea could of been really creepy if they used it the right way. I mean you guys know that the wheelchair shows the shadow of a figure squirming around in the wheelchair right? If they just made them a creepy part of the atmosphere instead of enemies they could of been really creepy.

^That is pretty much the only part that was creepy w/ the wheelchairs. All the other times it was just LULZ all around.

Another thing that would've been creepy is the wheelchairs moving ever-so-slightly, i.e. continuing to move through the long hallway while checking the rooms and looking for Eileen and a wheelchair wayyyy~ down at the end of the hall seems to be moving closer every time you go back through the hallway. Weird. >>;

^I actually like that idea, as long as they're not flying around running henry over(makes me chuckle just thinking about that)

Oh, voted for white chocolate, milk chocolate was a close second. And chocolate with nuts and/or fruit in it is just disgusting.
