I honestly never thought about the uterus thing. I always thought "nasty, pulsating flesh" and this actually fits with the uterus theory. After all the apartment is his mother, then again those things don't appear IN or ON the apartment, but AROUND it.
Walter thought the apartment is his mother, not the entire apartment building, then why is the REST of the apartment building uterus-y but not the apartment itself? oO

The apartment building is possessed by Walter. Room 302 is also possessed, but unlike the apartment tuilding its 'holy' to Walter. Uterus or not, Walter wouldn't want to make a mess in his "mother".

Greedy Worm is the big, immortal thing on which I wasted 2 hours of my life, right?
I remember reading it symbolizes the umbilical cord and is supposed to be a connection between the apartment and Walter's world, or something like that?
I'd love to read the theory mentioned by AuraTwilight though.

In a sick, kind of warped way, the squirming red walls kind of remind me of super demonic vaginal walls. Seriously, google what the inside of a birth canal looks like and imagine that all "Silent Hill'd". Plus, with 302 = Mother or "Womb", then the apartment might be a metaphorical "birth canal". So it might very likely be based on the look of a vaginal wall. Probably squirming because it is "alive" and not your average "vaginal wall".

Actually, on second thought, you really might not want to google image search "vaginal wall".
