Basement Noise & Holes (Spoilers)
Okay, as I continue my dissection of the smaller details of Silent Hill 2, I've noticed another noise I hadn't heard before (huzzah for my new TV).
Shortly after the hospital 'turns', and just before you find Maria in the basement, James enters an area between the bottom of the stairs & the store room door. The area to the right is blocked by wire fencing, but you can see what looks like a makeshift hole in the wall behind it. A similar hole is also visible to James left (as he's looking at the store room door).
The noise I refer to sounds like a high pitched squealing (or, as my girlfriend put it - "is that a fucking pig?"), and is audible for about a second at a time every few seconds. It can still be heard when you come back through with Maria.
So, has anyone else seen/heard these things either? Any thoughts on their meaning or lack thereof?

Well what do you think they mean? I don't see any real importance to either of them. Just a weird noise, and two holes that lead nowhere, we have no access to and for all intents and purposes mean nothing to me. Nothing to catch my interest besides wondering what the shit the noise was.
I'm not dead yet, dammit.

Silent Hill does that to you. No one's holding that against you, sometimes its hard to get yourself to stop thinking and wonder if there's deep, psychological meanings to what's in the game. We're all guilty of it. No worries.
It's possible. The holes in James' memories and psyche, blocking out what truly happened with Mary, did kinda sorta show up in the Labyrinth.
I'll only lock it if you'd like me to. I guess we'll see where the topic goes..

I was locked up inside the basements basement. It was so small and dark and I was so afraid. I dropped my precious ring. But I will never, ever go back there.
It's not any of the patients; it's an abandoned child, if you will. Something that is all over Silent Hill 2.

Yes, and he was "locked up" in the basement... you never know what happened after the writing. So, the sound may be a reference to that child...
Also, you know that sounds and memories seem to stick around in the unreality layers of Silent Hill. Maybe that is a memory of that child.

Ah yes. I remember that squeal. My brother and I always thought it was a midget giving birth.Icewater wrote: The noise I refer to sounds like a high pitched squealing (or, as my girlfriend put it - "is that a fucking pig?"), and is audible for about a second at a time every few seconds. Did I say that? I connected the sound to the one who got locked up in the basement...the Adversary wrote:>the sound may be a reference to that child...
The patient isn't a child.
You were the one who said it was a child.

You said "the sound may be a reference to that child..." The patient was locked in the basement's basement, not a child. I never suggested it was a child, rather: Jack Davis.
