I'm not at all interested in playing this game.

Have you seen Harry's daughter anywhere? Short, dark hair?

Is that bad? I've played all of the other games, but since I already know what happens in SH1, I'm just not all that excited about playing a slightly off graphics game that I know the ending of.

Why should I play SH1? What did you like about that game that would cause you to recommend it to me?
(Sorry if this is a repeat thread. I didnt see anything thread like this one, so I assume its ok to post. >.> )

Three reasons. Classic game. Classic atmosphere. Classic moments.

I think it's one of the scariest IMHO. And playing the third one is not right without having played the first. :?

Even if you already know what happens, playing along with the story and following the characters (some of my favorite) is an experience not to be missed.

I say play it, and if you don't like it, don't play it again.

I had the entire game of SH4 ruined for me because people were too fucking stupid to use spoilers. I, along with the other staff folk who didn't mind reading spoilers, went and kept that section clean, but I ended up knowing every single thing about the game before I had even bought it. That hasn't stopped me from the playing and enjoying the game, though.

You know the story, now experience it for yourself.
I'm not dead yet, dammit.

Play through it.
It's not that long, and it's really worth it if you like the series.
You may notice other points and learn more by going through it yourself.

Knowledge is power.
If you really like the Silent Hill genre you should definately play #1,afterall it's the game that started it all, plus you can learn more about the series.
I reject your reality and substitute my own :]

Play it, beat it. That way you can brag to your friends, and be like "Oh yeah?! Well I have played and beat all the Silent Hill games" or something like that

The whole thing with the graphics kinda got on my nerves...

but I personally don't think you can call yourself a fan if you haven't played them all...

You can pick up a copy so cheap these days you might aswell, and surely it would be nice to own and have played the whole collection. I could understand if you didn't want to watch a film because you know the ending and what happens etc, but to not play a game because you know about it is different. Surely its all about the excitement of playing it, solving the riddles, fighting the monsters yada yada. Just pick up a copy and play! You wont regret it.

The information gleaned from playing the third game would be akin to reading the back cover of a book and thinking you got it all.

Play the game.

What's wrong with that?

So many people here are voicing their concerns about Silent Hill 4 being -with a lack of a better word - shit.

But hey, isn't posting your opinions generally what a forum is for?

I suggest playing it. I found my copy for like $8 at the local Game Stop. Okay, so it's just the disc, but there are FAQ's if I need to know how to play the game. I remember someone I used to know got through the school and had to give up the game because he was TOO SCARED. Right now I'm at the Moth boss and I am quite scared to play it in the dark. It wasn't that way with any of the other games...I guess it's because this one is very good, despite the dated graphics and the horrible turning speed of Harry.

In short, try it. If you don't like it, then well whatever. At least you can say you played it and got back to your roots. Appropriately quoting Sepultura: "ROOTS! BLOODY ROOTS!!!"
I need a miracle and not someone's charity.

I mean there are better uses of your time and stuff.
