Suits
I dont think this has been discussed before, and if it has , sorry, if not, I cant help but wonder why it hasnt, but whats the point of those miners suits? not everyone wears them, just those who seem to be on official buisness, IE finding Rose, bringing rose to the hospital, so I wonder, what do the rubber suits do? it doesnt seem like they protect anything seeing as how a man in a rubber suit is seen somewhat gutted and hanging from a fence at the beginnning of the movie
Theres danger in those cracks between your toes.

The way I saw it is that the suits protect the people from being injured by the monsters. Such as the monster that spit searing hot liquid at Cybil when her and Rose were attempting to hike to the next city. Also, the "miners" were originally going to escort Rose to the bottom floor before discovering she was a "witch".

^^^Yeah, but it's better than nothing. Speaking of nothing, nothing can protect you against Pyramid Head's great knife, that is just life (or should I say death?).
The birds and the sirens are what protect the cult from the monsters. The only guarantee of survival was to take refuge at the church. But thanks to Rose, that is no longer an option. Not that any cult members are alive to care anyways .

I second that and rubber is much better at resisting acid than skin-obiviously. Kevlar (spelling?) probably wouldn't resist acid that well anyway. And remeber they're scavangers so they have to use what they can.DocBlaze27 wrote:^^^Yeah, but it's better than nothing. it wasn't hot liquid. it was acid. acid doesn't have to be hot and to melt through stuff.DocBlaze27 wrote:The way I saw it is that the suits protect the people from being injured by the monsters. anyway yeh it probably did help them against sum stuff in silent hill. as theres probably more creatures out there than the ones we've seen. its a big place not to have more monmsters
but uyeh. probably just to make u feel more safe than u real are. granted it would protect u against some stuff not not everything.

I agree, the suits were probaly just added protection for stuff like debri, and possibly the acid. But as for why they use the suits, big hooha about coal fires burining beneath the city, so they were probably used in the coal mines before the shit hit the fan and the survivors just used what was just lying around.

I sure hope that everyone besides the person saying ''that the canary added a great touch'' know what they're for right?
For those that don't.
In the past, in mines, miners didn't have high-tech equipment to scan the whole mines, neither did they have supreme quality equipment.
It would happen more often than not that there were gasses, floating around through the mines.
This is where the canary comes in, whenever there would be too much gas floating around (which could cause serious harm) the canary would panic and start making a lot of sound and stuff.
In silent hill, the canary starts panicking as "the darkness" comes.
Combined with their rubber ''old-style miner like'' suits, this gives a full ''miner person'' image.
Maybe this has to do with the ''coal mine'' stuff, the people keep talking about..
And as for them wearing it:
You have to admit, most of them people look as if they lived in the middle ages, so maybe:
They wear it because they have nothing better.
They're stuck the way they were before the ''w/e happened there and caused silent hill to become a ghost town''.

Well, even those creatures are rather slow in their steps, they have a er...um...LONG RANGE ACID SPITTING SKILLS ^_^!!jondude_1991 wrote:But it would be easy to out run the guy that spits acid he walked slow in the movie
You've seen what those acid spitting things did to Cybil o_o;
They spat a load of acid at a rather far distance and if it wasn't for her helmet and jacket, she would've probably been toasted right then.
The suits the miners wore were probably like another temporary skin to protect them from such obstacles like those creatures and if shit happens to that temporary skin, they'll just peel it off and run for cover.
On the second thought the miners might be wearing suits made from leather because they might be the persons that loot the outer parts of the town. Just crossed my mind when the PH ripped the girls skin off and christabella mentions that Anabella ( the girl that had her skin ripped off ) whent too far away from refuge. So these might be the real risk takers protection.
And when it comes to the usage of leather against let's say acid I have my own experience on. Using REAL leather gloves when working on acids used to clean metal parts where allmost the best protection. And especially real leather that had been softened.

Hope is the first step on the road towards disapointment
