The phone call static

Post by jsunderland67 »

Sorry I'm just having all the thought and theories pop out at me now for some strange reason.

Does any one think there's any connection or relevence concerning the fact that the first call Rose made to her husband when she was in her car which she left as a voice mail was filled with static, but at least half to every other word said by her in the voicemail the audience and the dad could if not make out that clear at least HEAR her words, like acknowleding she was actually saying something, and when Rose makes that last call to her husband on the way home that it sounds like there's more static, and as of the point that he gets to the phone while she's leaving yet anothe voicemail, that time neither the husband or the audience can hear any words at all?

damn man you went berserk i see most of threads came out from u

they call it white noise - supposely it comes from dead who trying to comunicate with their living familiars, this gives theory that they were died a higher priority , though i dont think so, statics here shuldnt be conected with them being dead, its just Silent Hills aura

BTW..if ya wanna know more about that stuff check "White noise" movie with Michael Keaton- its great.

I own it and have seen. But you don't find that weird in the movie.

The fact that those two voicemail messages are left is the primary evidence I find for the idea that the next movie might adopt the Silent Hill 2 storyline, with Chris searching for Rose. The scene with the first phonecall is almost exactly the same as when James first discovers the Radio and hears a fragmented version of Mary talking to him.

In both scenes the omission of words, and highlighting of others such as 'I'm not ok' etc, meant that the person listening to them likely recieved a misconception of what the speaker intended. In SH2 we later hear the entire message, with the meaning and tone coming across quite differently from the fragmented version.

BTW, white noise doesn't necessarily come from the dead, it's just a lack of signal or natural interference. I live near some industrial dockyards and when the ships have their sonar on I get white noise on both the phone and TV. The link with the dead is more along the lines of believing that spirits are some sort of electro-magnetic energy, and can thus interfere with radio signals. Put your tv onto a blank frequency and you'll see the visual representation of white noise- we usually just call it 'snow'.

Well, there's also the issue of Cybil's radio and Rose's phone both going off when the lying figure approaches. Presumably the static from both is coming from the monster's proximity, similarly to how the Jeep's radio goes off when they're driving to Silent Hill. It's kind of inconsistent, seeing as how neither device alarms at any other point despite the presence of monsters, but possibly the increase in static can be attributed to Rose's increasing immersion in the world of Silent Hill and distance from the outside. Or, an alternative theory I've heard is that the initial static comes from SH/the monsters, but gradually Rose herself becomes a monster and cements the process by collaborating with the demon to help Alessa. There's also the possibility that the static is totally drowning out the last phone call because Sharon is very close to Rose and seems to have merged with the demon during that scene in the church. Lots of theories...

I thought maybe it was because the first time Rose had called Chris, she was in Silent Hill, but in no immediate danger. The last time she calls him, she's in the car with (who i beleive to be Alessa merged with Sharron) and she makes the phone go ALL messed up and that's why he can't hear a thing. Idk...just thought I'd throw something out there.

Not too bad. But I kind of like the NecroNoir thoughts. Pretty interesting. Cause it is kind of like that.

What does remain pretty consistent, though, is the presence of the Reaper. When they're driving the radio screams just before the Reaper appears in front of their car, and at the end the fact that her call is completely static can be explained by the fact that the Reaper is now sitting right next to her in Sharon. I think this is connected to the functionality of all electronics in the movie. In the hospital the elevator doesn't work until the Reaper decides that it should, and by the same token the car will not start until after her shared goal with Alessa has been completed. The only real anomaly is the signal when the Lying Figure approaches them, but this is part of the more general issue of why it is the only type of creature that can exist in the foggy world.

Basically I think it comes down to th fact that if the Reaper doesn't want electronic devices to work, they won't.

Very interesting. It never popped into my head that the car wouldn't start cause the pact or objective hadn't been completed. I

Well, there's the other anomaly of Rose's phone breaking up in static when she's sitting in her car leaving Chris a voicemail and the Reaper is nowhere to be found. I suppose that could go along with the lack of objective completion as well.

Did Cybil still have the radio when they were cowering in the room from PH? If she had, I'd have thought the thing would sizzle louder than blazes... what with PH and all those roaches converging upon them...

...or maybe the sound editor simply neglected to put the sound effect in. Meh.

Yeah, she still had it. And Rose had her phone. I think they just didn't bother continuing with that whole thing, which is too bad IMO.

yeah that kind of sucks. But if they had the that static going on the whole time, we wouldn't have been able to hear the background music that clear, or what they were saying.

very perculiar indeed. i reckon they just cut out the white noise every time due to it interferring with the soundtrack and dialogue of the movie.

I thought both Cybil and Rose turned those said devices off o_o;;;;;
I think its a sensible act to a certain degree. If you're in a weird place like that and if you're trying to bypass monsters and other what nots, if your communication devices just spits out loud white noise, those creatures are bound to notice and go after you.

It’s white noise for sure but doesn’t mean anyone is dead not the slightest, it probably means at least to me that they have entered a new alternate world and are unable to contact anyone, this has been shown in other movies, television shows and spin offs it doesn’t mean that they are dead though.

Oh, I hope so. That would be so awesome to continue it like that. I think, for the small part he had, Sean did a great job as Chris. But then....would PH still be in it? Or would that be too much of him?

i would have to disagree with this whole idea. sure the radio and phone went a little crazy when the lying figure is seen, but it stops soon after. the lying figure gets closer and closer to rose and cybil and the static had long been stopped.

i think it's pretty much controlled by the reaper or possibly but less likely by alessa. the car radio went off as a distraction which helped lead to the crash, she obviously doesn't want much communication going on with others outside of SH. when the lying figure(s) drew nearer it could have been a warning, because as we know alessa needs rose, and something is fishy about these lying figures being in foggy SH as well..

I agree with averna. when the figure is closer to Cybil the static was alredy gone... (Welcome by the way.)
