SH3, The Most Disturbing?
Anyone here share my opinion of SH3 being the most disturbing out of all the SH games? (Or of all videogames for that matter?)

I found this one to be the least disturbing out of the four. Its shallow, vacant plot is the only thing about it that disturbed me.
"Oh yeah, I've been here before
I can see it with eyes closed
Shadows that look like blood
Dead as far as the mind goes
Fear that comes from my head
Lives in the mirror"

The graphics were a pure nightmare, but most of it was gross or scary, not necessarily disturbing. SH2 had the most disturbing story, while SH4 probably had some of the most disturbing visuals and background effects I've seen in a game (crawling through that hole in the bathroom the first time is something I'll never forget).

Well, no. It was my favourite, and definitely the one that scared the living shit out of me. The only real disturbance was that I actually bothered flipping the light on during nightly toilet trips and couldn't play after 6 PM. However, in terms of what actually needled its way into my brain? Hmmmm...it wasn't 2. I think I'm one of the few to say that. I'd actually admit to 4, despite that I hated it. It had a number of things in there-- little oddities to spot (no, not that stupid and totally NOT SCARY floating head. jesus, you guys), subtly eerie things to read-- that bugged me, in the desired way. Take the Water Prison, for example. The more I read the notes left around, the more my stomach turned. Yup. Disturbing.

Uhh.
For me personally I'd say it's a toss up between 2 and 3.
The most disturbing area in any of the games for me though was that underground prison in SH2.
The sounds alone down there freaked me out.

The hauntings in SH4 just freak me out. I have a weakness for poltergeist stuff like that. It reminds me of fatal frame wich scarred me for life. SH3 left a very strong impression with the f*cked up surroundings. The monsters were no biggie though.
And I had to turn off my PS2 after the first PH encounter in SH2. Back then I didnt know what it was, I thought it was some red monster. The fact it wasnt there anymore after I left the room freaked me out so hard I turned off my PS2. I was afraid it was gonna ambush me somewhere.
But to stay on topic, I agree SH3 is the most disturbing along with 4. But note that when I say disturbing I dont mean scary. I mean disturbing in a way of: ".... wtf... this is sick, dude" Just check my avatar, I love it so much cuz its the first thing you see when you start the game and its one of the most disturbing things youll see.

Heather was the only protagonist in the entire series that ever showed visible distress over the things she saw. Heather was, by a huge margin, the best, most convincingly real protagonist in the Silent Hill series. Love her personality or hate it, she's the only one who had it.Talk2Luke wrote:I don't think it is, Heather doesn't even seem worried by the sight of these monsters, so why should I?
I've never understood why SH3 gets such a bad rap. I love it. It's second to the second for me. I like it even better than the first game. So there.

yea same but since I came to this site I realised how few people are understanding from these games, and from SH3 by far less. And thus they think it sux cuz they can't simple comprehend it, though game is quite deep and interestingRyan wrote:Talk2Luke wrote:

Silent Hill 3 isn't deep. At all. Everything you need to generally understand the story is pretty much handed to you on a platter. The only things that are left are small things that really don't matter and are supposed to be interpreted by the player anyways.KRYSTA-GG- wrote:yea same but since I came to this site I realised how few people are understanding from these games, and from SH3 by far less. [/backontopic] I've only played the last three Silent Hills [LE GASP] and out of them I think that this one is indeed the most disturbing. [Twitchy heads. D:] But for a game being the scariest, I'd have to stick with Silent Hill 2. If the thread is still running I'll re-update when I get Silent Hill 1 sometime near the middle of next month.

Yeah, the characters in this game are great, especially Claudia. I felt so bad for her in the end.BloodRedLion wrote:Agreed, Silent Hill 3's plot isn't exactly enthralling or deep. But I find it to be presented extremely well in the final 1/3 of the game and the characters, for me, are the most compelling, specifically Vincent, Douglas and Claudia.
