Painted ladies by the door with the two rings in Brookhaven

Post by The 8th Aspect »

I did a search on this topic and could find anything on it. If it's been discussed please link me.

I just want some thoughts about the ladies painted on the wall where you have to put the two rings to unlock the staircase door in Brookhaven. Is there a significance or theory as to why its there or who they are in relation to the SH series? Please do tell.

i think that it relates to Alessa being the mother of god, same with the poem

If I remember correctly, it's Saint Jennifer (?)
The room with the three paintings in SH3- I think Saint Jennifer is the same lady of the door.

I'm really not sure though.

I don't know, but every time you walk towards it, your light flashes on it and it scared the CRAP out of me, because I'm not expecting it and the radio doesn't go off because it's not a monster.

I think it looks like Alanis Morisette as God in DOGMA. It'd be funny if they did that on purpose as a hidden reference, but then again...a lot of female saints looked like her in old paintings, IMO.

Maybe she was the inspiration for Alessa

It creeped me out too when I played the game for the very first time. I'm really shocked that no one has inquired about this. But my sediments exactly. :?

The hands that come out of the paintings are what scared me. At first I didn't want to go up to it because I thought it was going to grab me. XD

Light spoilers.

I sort of expected it because I read the diary of the guy in the hospital, saying that "she was an angel". That is all I remember about it. But I don't know what grater significance it was supposed to represent. I played it a while ago now, I think the the pasient was mentally ill and saw the "angel" which I thought that was a demonic figure which he represented as an angel. But my mind could be playing tricks on me.

I don't remember ever being scared of this. I did think it was very strange, though. I never put much thought into it...

I'm not making a serious theory here, but this popped into my head right away. James putting the rings on the fingers reminds me of Mary- how he married her once before, and how now (though he doesn't know about what he did yet) he would like a second chance. A second ring.

Anyway, I think that it's more likely for the 2 rings made of different materials to have some sort of meaning, though not likely a significant one.

There are actually alot more ladies present near the door than I initially thought/noticed.

Do any of these women look slightly familiar? Maybe they appeared in paintings from later games?

I was looking for my copy of that. Discovered it a long time ago, back when Nursery Cryme still existed.

Anyway. No. None of them are present in later installments.

I can't help but wonder what they might be a reference to though, if anything. (Unless I've missed something stated already in the thread.) It seems strange that these women would just be there with no real history behind them.

Holy thread revival! Nice screen cap, beats the hell outta trying to get your flashlight right on it while playing the game and figuring out what the image is.

>I can't help but wonder what they might be a reference to
Anyway, that was the information I was looking for too. I can't tie it to anything and I find it hard to believe it's just random.

Well. Let's take a look at the poem that relates to the "Lady of the Door." I did this awhile ago & found that there are two ways to properly punctuate this to create two meanings, but I can't seem to emulate it again.
Original poem wrote:She is an angel no one knows only
I can see the Lady of the Door
they cannot walk along her Bridge
of Thread they fall from the weight
of their crimes.

Like bloated and ugly corpses
their sins she devours them
sin and sinner alike she saves
me she is an angel.
