Flashlight room

Post by Sionnan »

Seems that we haven't picked apart every layer of Silent Hill yet. I love finding these kind of things, it shows how well thought out the game was.

In the Woodside Apartment, in the room where you get the flashlight from the Mary model, check out the wallpaper.

I looked at that and thought to myself, "That can't be coincidental." A look around the apartment complex shows me that there's no other wall paper like it.

So I figured it's got to have some significance, and I wracked my brain for a pair of birds that mate (as in go in pairs, not sex) closely like that, and would be common knowledge.

And here we go: lovebirds.

I just thought it was a cute little find. It's also interesting how much Silent Hill takes from the person and reflects it into the surroundings.

Interesting theory, I'll have to go back and check that out myself. Never really paid much attention to the wallpaper.

I mentioned that once long, long ago, I think even before this Web site existed.

There's a lot of strange wallpaper in the apartments, actually.

They could also be doves. Doves mate for life and symbolise love, fidelity and peace. Doves also feature prominently in Christian symbology, which is prevalent in the SH series.

It also creates a very demure, domestic image to be associated with Mary. Maria is the polar opposite, associated with sex, tattoos, and leather.

True, but doves aren't quite so brightly colored. I had thought of doves at first, too, but the birds aren't gray or white.

@ Tom- like what? I mostly noticed floral patterns, and that's pretty much it.

Awww, that's so cute.
I noticed the wallpaper on my like 27th time playing the game. It just gets to a point where now i'm starting to pick out little details like that and it's as if everything has a bit of a meaning.

This yet again proves that everything in Silent Hill has meaning and isn't sheer coincidence... I wonder what the other wallpapers look like...

Interesting, really interesting. Make me want to go back and really take a closer look at the game in general (been about a year since), im sure that there are many other semingly small things like this left to be explored.

Am I the only person who's ever thought that Mary's outfit looks alot like Maude Flanders from The Simpsons?

A good close up on the wallpaper would make wonders! :)
You got me curious about this one but I couldn't tell which birds are those in the wall.

Wow, good eye you have there. I never noticed that before, so maybe it's time for me to do a more detailed run through the game. Thanks for the post!

Wait, now I don't, anymore. Hehe. Definitely birds. For a while I thought it looked like wide-spread mothwings.

It depends on how you look at it. I, too, can see moths. It's a pareidolia.

It's probably the angle from which I took it. If you get close, they're very obviously birds.

See, if you look at it and let your eyes sort of go out of focus, I can also sort of see each pair of birds as one angel.

Is this kind of your way of telling me I'm a complete moron, Drewfus?
