I was in 7th grade when I beat this game for the first time, Im a sophmore in highschool now. I still love this game, but I havent touched it in forever, can someone please tell me or just post a screen shot of the final boss. After the two Pyramid Heads. The character you encounter before fighting it is always Maria except in one of the endings, but I think in a strange sort of way it is both of them: James' beloved dead wife and his guilty ideal hypersexualized version of her.
"Oh yeah, I've been here before
I can see it with eyes closed
Shadows that look like blood
Dead as far as the mind goes
Fear that comes from my head
Lives in the mirror"

The In Water ending.
- Mary...?
- Wrong again. Mary’s dead. You killed her.
- Maria. Maria... I’m done with you.
- What do you mean? But I can be yours... I’ll be here for you forever. And I’ll never yell at you or make you feel bad. That’s what you wanted.
- Now I understand. The problem is... you’re not Mary.
- No James. I won’t let you! I’ll never let you have your Mary back!
Definitely not Mary.

. . . AND THAT'S THAT.

Exactly. That's what Maria is- a manifestation of his guilt and lust. Mary is dead.. she isn't present at all throughout the game. It's James' dirty mind that got him trapped in this situation.. (well and the fact that he killed his wife, whom he loved dearly..)James' beloved dead wife and his guilty ideal hypersexualized version of her.
And as far as that metal box thing being a bedframe, I don't know if I agree with that... Bedframes are more rectangular and flat, and there'd probably be legs to it. I always compared it to cages of the monsters that you fight when Laura locks you in the room in the hospital.

I realise, Drew. I more meant that if the player was 'whoring' themselves to Maria with extra attention (amongst the other conditions), then they will get the Maria Ending. I wasn't implying Maria herself was a prostitute.Drewfus wrote:Maria's not a hooker, she's a stripper. There's a difference.
Strippers need love too.
I think it's Mary's idea of what is attractive to James just as much as James' personal ideas of sexuality.Exactly. That's what Maria is- a manifestation of his guilt and lust....

Contradicts Team Silent, who have stated Maria is James' delusion. Mary is dead, gone, and nowhere near the town. Dead is Dead. You shouldn't tag theories as fact. You aren't the creator of the game.the Adversary wrote:>Birthed from a horny male mind..
Not entirely. Not really at all. Maria is the product of Mary's volition just as much as she is of James'.
