The "I GOT IT!" Thread + Spoiler-Free Impressions
Alright, I looked around and didn't find a thread like this one, and I'm avoiding the spoiler forum like the plauge, so this is a spoiler-free thread for all of you to come in and exclaim your excitement that you finally got your hands on your copy of Silent Hill Homecoming. (You know, since some stores will have it today.)
Also, to prevent this from falling to one line "WOO-HOO!" replies, come back and edit your posts with first impressions, if you're taking a gameplay break! JUST DON'T SPOIL ANYTHING OR... else.
I have mine on pre-order but my store isn't expecting it until tomorrow. Good thing I'm working, I'll be the one processing shipment so I'll be the first to get my hands on it! (Getting the guide too.)
Discuss!

Re: The "I GOT IT!" Thread + Spoiler-Free Impressi
same here. i'll edit my post when i get it, and again after i play for 1st impressions, if i can peel myself away from it for long enoughImmortalGrey wrote:I have mine on pre-order but my store isn't expecting it until tomorrow.
edit- i got it yesterday at noon and played it till i went to sleep last night. i'm not going to spoil anything but i am up to the hell descent level. this one is very difficult as you can only carry 27 bullets for the pistol with you. health items are scarce. however, it is definitely creepy. more to come when i actually beat the game........
ok, i just beat it and omg i am in love!!!! the story is so deep and interesting. it was a little difficult in the beginning, but once i got used to how the monsters attack, and what weapon to use on each one, it got a little easier. the graphics are stunningly beautiful, especially in nightmare. I was very pleased with homecoming. the only things that i wish would have returned, were the rankings after you beat the game, and the extra option menu to turn the noise filter off and the bullet adjust. however, as great as i think this game is, i can live without it. thank you double helix

My pre-order from videogamesplus.ca is still processing but they said it should ship today so I'm hoping to get mine next week some time if the airmail is quick enough.
EDIT:
My order has been shipped! I'm just praying that it gets to the UK alright

Ok, i pretty much said my peace in the spoiler section, but i'll post a bit here as well.
be reminded this is just my opinion. When i look at silent Hill i think about the story, the story development, the plot, characters and so forth. I dont play silent hill for the graphics or gameplay or anything like that.
- it should also be noted im basing this off of a whole 1 and a half gameplays.
Right from the begening i started seeing that bit of western horror pop in and out of place. As many of you have seen from videos there are moments that seem to come right from the movie, and though they are unoriginal (I'm concerned DH doesnt have much of an imagination, considering how much of this stuff in Homecomming we've seen in popular movies, or elseplace), Double Helix emplaces them with some craft.
as it goes on, the game began falling apart for me in the sense of story telling. It's a good story, worthy of Silent Hill, but the way it's told doesnt have that same subtlety that the previous Sh games do. The far eastern culture has some amazing methods for telling their story.
Just to elaborate, i'll recount something Stephen King said when he wrote a book about writing stories, he was using his novel 'Misery' as the example. He said that you should never come out and say "she was feeling psychotically suicidal," or "felt like breaking someones legs". his goal was to hand the reader that information without flat out saying it. he would give hints, he would use the characters actions, dialogue, clothes, ect ect, to depict not only the characters, but the story.
I remember playing Sh2 and 3 and alot of terribly key elements were given to us a dollar at a time, in incraments. those games made you think and have to do a little speculation. you practically had to play the game two or three times to get a decent picture. Silent Hill Homecomming didnt seem to have that. the story is pretty much spoon fed to us.
As far as graphics, this game probably has some of the best that i've seen on the 360. The monsters are stunning, not just in their looks, but the way they move and react to you. My hat is off to DH for what they did with those creatures. if they surpassed team silent in one place, it's the futility of the monsters.
The atmosphere of the game is well concieved. there are a few things that irked me, that seemed out of place. prehaps DH wasnt aware of it or they were trying something new, i dont know. Some of the newer areas are among the better designed in the SH series so far.
the combat isn't as beefed up as i thought it would be. I try to be an honest person, and honestly i ate my words when it came to the combat system. It's fairly simple. -There is one thing i'm a little ticked off about in this department, but i'm afraid of spoiling something.
So those are my impressions. I put a longer post in the spoiler section with more of my thoughts, particularly the story style. i wish i could talk about the story line, becouse that's where most of my disliking is. There is ONE thing i want to bitch about, something i really, really, really want to complain and kick someone square in the balls over, but no spoilers in this thread. I'm sure a few of you will know it when you see it.
The game left me with a sense of dispair, wishing there had been more, wishing some parts of the game hadnt been included just becouse i have a hard time imagining them in silent hill. My impression: it's fun, it's interesting, it's certainly a Silent Hill game- but there's too much of the Silent Hill Style that's missing from the story.
But please, please, please don't let me discourage or encourage anyone either way. Go get the game, decide for yourself. I'm interested to see what the rest of you die hard fans have to say.

That was a good review I have been wanting to hear something from a hardcore fan. What exactly is western style horror? I haven't played enough of the other sh games to be able to pick out all the differences although I am working on it. I have all the games and am playing the 1st and 3rd one a little at a time. It scary but I am loving them.DeSilva wrote:Ok, i pretty much said my peace in the spoiler section, but i'll post a bit here as well.

That was a good read, thank you for that. I'm interested in seeing what that part of the game is that you want to crush balls over. I hope it's nothing too bad.DeSilva wrote:Ok, i pretty much said my peace in the spoiler section, but i'll post a bit here as well.
