James got a letter. From a dead person. Oh dear.

If you guys think that's all weird, you should see Cynthia with a moustache and beard in SH4 on the 360.

I don't even know if that's legal, but your best bet could be just googling for it.

Besides James' limbs flashing in SH2 on PS3 (80GB), I noticed in one of the rooms in the apartments the door and lower parts of the walls were flashing a little bit. Nothing major though. And if the others don't run that well on PS3, well, I still have my PS2 and PS1 to play them on. :)

Are you talking about the room before Angela's mirror room? Because I had that same problem in that room.

Yeah, that's the one. Not really a big deal, though.

Droo wrote:There are no issues with any of the PS2 Silent Hills on the 60GB.

For the 80GB, SH2's only problem is that James' character model flashes grey during the sequence when he exits the bathroom and has his opening monologue.

I should also note that Silent Hill 1 does not work on either North American PS3 model.

Did you mean it doesn't work on the 80gb? (SH1) I have the 40gb console (N. American) and SH1 works great on it...

Also, I was playing SH2 (on ps2) with component cables on a 1080i HDTV, and it looks worse than it does on a CRT TV with av cables...? I had to turn the noise filter off it was so bad... you can really see the pixel lines... I don't have backwards compatability on my PS3, but does anyone know if this issue happens when playing SH2 on a PS3? (since the PS3 will actually up-convert the signal) I know it's not going to look any better than the game's native resolution, but it'd be nice to play SH2 on in semi-hd... :)

There is a little confusion here.
For the record the PAL(europe) 40GB, 80GB and 160GB Playstation 3 models do not have backwards compatibility.
The originally released PAL 60GB PS3 is backwards compatible, however it is no longer being manufactured for sale.

Additionally I am currently playing through SH2(on my 60GB PS3) and can definitely confirm that from around the Historical Society/Toluca Prison area onwards; James' limbs (and even head during the row boat scene!) occasionally disappear in a flickering on-off manner.
This also happens to a minor few surfaces and walls, but I didn't really find it annoying, it seems rather infrequent.

I have the PS3 40GB American Version and it does not read PS2 games, but it reads all my PS1 games.

I'm sort of pissed about that cause I did not know that. I bought it for $399 and what pissed me iff even more, a week later, the 80GB dropped to $399.

Just so everyone knows:

Only the 20, 60, and 80 GB PS3's are backwards compatible with PS2 Discs. All, and I do mean ALL PS3's will read PS1 Discs. The 20 and 60 GB PS3's run PS2 games with full hardware simulation, hence almost no problems with PS2 games. The 80 GB runs PS2 games with partially software based emulation, which causes minor problems in some games, major ones in others. Backwards compatible PS3's have a chrome (reflective) trim (with the exception of the 20 GB, which is solid black all over) and four USB ports. Fat PS3's that are NOT backwards compatible have flat silver trim and two USB ports. Here are the compatibility issues with the Silent Hill games.

Silent Hill 1
On all models of PS3, there is a glitch where firing any gun will, every so often, produce a god-awful high pitched tone that will not stop unless you go through a door. It breaks atmosphere and makes (for me at least) the game unplayable. However, if you download the game from PSN this is not an issue and the game runs perfectly.

Silent Hill 2
20/60 GB: All of the characters left legs will flicker slightly from time to time.

80 GB: Same issue as above. Also, as previously mentioned, in room 109 (?) of the apartments (the room before where you find Angela) the bottom of the walls flicker grey.

Silent Hill 3
20/60 GB: Runs perfectly

80 GB: Slight lighting problems with Douglas' beard. It appears white and flickers to grey

Silent Hill 4
20/60 GB: Runs perfectly

80 GB: The walls flicker a bit in Room 302 and a very few other areas.

Silent Hill Origins
20/60/80 GB: Apparently it runs fine except for one particular FMV. I haven't played this yet on my PS3 yet, so I can't speak to it.

Silent Hill Shattered Memories
20/60/80 GB: Haven't played this on PS3 yet either, but I haven't found any complaints on the interwebs.

So, in short, if you download SH1 from the PlayStation Store, and have Silent Hill 2, 3, 4, Origins, and SM for PS2, you can enjoy the series in its entirety. I'm a hardcore fan and none of the problems mentioned actually affected my experience. Hope this clears some confusion up.

Well, my PS2 still works, so that's what I play SH2 on. And I may get some of the other games as well, depends on how much they cost.
