How?

Post by xxpray_for_DeaTh »

How did James get to silent hill? like at the begining when you leave the bathroom and you go over and get the map out of the car, is it his car; did he drive? cause when you walk around that area, the road is all fenced off. so i was just wondering.

He drove there.

The area that's fenced off is to Central Silent Hill- not where he came from.
He says so if you examine the fenced off area.

Plus there's an open road directly to the right of the screen/the car/the bathroom he stops in.

Plus you see him heading to the car in the Maria ending, as well as hear him drive the car in the In Water ending.

You hear him sell the car in the "Mary's life Insurance" ending.

Actually, yeah...he just drove in from the right side of the screen and was stopped by the underpass being blocked off BY THE POWERS OF THE TOWN, NOT GENERAL MAINTENANCE.

You don't block off an entire town to rebuild a few fences...It's just part of the caged-in nature of the town...

You fence in an entire town if the town is Silent Hill, and cue the creepy music

The fence part, I believe, does not exist. They're like the chasms. The one separating Paleville from Lakeside is gone in SH3. The town's form changes as required for its purposes.

James stopped the car and went into the washroom because he's freaking out from just having killed Mary, and is trying to decide what to do next. The delusion of the letter begins in the washroom.

Not necessarily. I'd say he turned around and back into Silent Hill because he found the letter, probably while he's driving.

Yes, it does vanish over time, but what he's carrying exists at that time.

Maybe Mary's memory or spirit made him go coockoo.Thats why he has the letter at the beginning, but at the end, he has excepted Maria as his own Personal Savior, has denied Maria and lives, or dies so he doesnt need the letter anymore and it fadeds away

"This is Mary's letter to me, which I know is really from her, and has her handwriting."

"This is Mary's letter to me, although it seems she used disappearing ink, but I know I got this letter from her."

"This is Mary's... envelope... well I know I definitely received this envelope from her... I must have lost the letter."

"This is... where's the envelope? Someone must have mugged me... stealing letters from dead wives!! BASTARDS!"

The four phases the letter goes through.
Letter w/ handwriting and envelope.
Letter and envelope.
Envelope.
Nothing.

Actually, just in curiosity about the letter- the letter
PRIME_BBCODE_SPOILER_SHOW PRIME_BBCODE_SPOILER:
read at the end of three endings was real, right? And you get it from Laura, so it should have been new to James. However, the letter that was part of his delusions starts off exactly the same. How is this possible?

The ending letter was the letter in full, but you don't get it from Laura.. since she lost it. ? I think that's how that one goes. I always assumed the one you hear at the end of the game was James remembering the rest of the letter. It's a bit of an odd coincedence that the imagined letter and her real letter start off exactly the same, and the only logical explanation that I see is that James had received Mary's complete letter before the start of the game. Maybe Rachel gave it to him, as Mary asked her to do, or perhaps he found it either on her/in her hospital room/etc. Regardless of where he found it, he did get ahold of it and this may have helped triggered the memory block (along with the trauma of Mary's death).

So.. he only remembers the first few lines, interprets it as Mary saying she's waiting for him in Silent Hill, and so he goes to find her.

EDIT::P Its just a theory. The guilt of "killing Mary" made him want redemption, there are instances where people fabricate their entire lives or just parts to suite themselves and shield themselves from the real world (kinda like F.C.)
