I noticed that there is a boat in the water near the lodge and the woods that is called 'Der Oswind'. Which I thought was kinda interesting. In English it means 'The East Wind' and the east wind is usually associated with cold and death.
I found some interesting quotes on wikipedia from books; the most interesting I think is the following:
In George MacDonald's At the Back of the North Wind, the East Wind is described as more mischievous than strictly evil; the North Wind comments, "...[O]ne does not exactly know how much to believe of what she says, for she is very naughty sometimes..."
There is also the more obvious link of a short film about a german WW1 pilot called 'Der Ostwind', but I'm not quite sure of the exact relation of that to SM.
The only kind of link I could find was to do with denial, since the german pilot in the short film gets defeated by an american, but when the american gets gunned down he denies it and pretends it never happened. See if you can find any better connections yourself... Not that it's massively important
