The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that writer Roger Avary and producer Samuel Hadida are planning to return to the Silent Hill realm and will be bringing forth Silent Hill 2.

They both worked on the 2006 film, which grossed approximately $100 million throughout the world.

Filming will reportedly begin a year following the release of Resident Evil: Afterlife starring Milla Jovovich.

So they're waiting 'til Avary's out of jail, then?

I'm not sure how I feel about Avary handling the script. I didn't like his writing in the first film all that much, and I felt it would've been a movie higher ranked in my esteem if it did without some of his ... interesting choices of dialog.

Oh well. At least he isn't Diablo freakin' Cody.

Now I'm a little frustrated, because I was hoping for it to be filmed in 2010 and released 2011. Oh well :)

So we can probably expect a release date of early 2012 then...good grief. By then most people will probably have forgotten about the first one (minus the fans of course).

They better create an epic sequel for making us wait this long or someone's gonna get their penis slapped.

Good. When things are pushed back it means that they'll have more work. More work sometimes means a better "performance".

I think so, though I can't say with 100% certainty. This is the first we've heard about filming dates since the producer said he wanted to film this year, though so I figured it was notable.

maybe jail will put the guy in a darker mindset which is a good thing...and he has plenty of time to think right now about how to make the film sweet

I don't think jail can put anyone in a darker mindset than the knowledge that you did something stupid and killed your friend and almost killed your wife. I can bet money he's done some major growing since that night, and his script will reflect that (though I don't know if that'll be a good or bad thing).

You mean they haven't already. . . ?

It's obvious the script is going to have an entirely different, and shitty, redemptive ending now, after Avery's imprisonment. There will also be a short excursion through Toluca Prison.

And it will suck.

So you wouldn't want a redemption-based ending? Because I think Avary said he wanted to aim for that (or forgiveness) in the first movie's ending but he and Gans came to disagree about how the do-bad..ders should meet their end.

I wish I kept a stockpile of these interviews for reference.

^I think that's AITT paraphrasing the script from the first film.

I get the idea that the meowing wasn't initially part of the script, given what the production notes say about it.
Quote:
Gans nurtured Ferland’s performances with a combination of charm and gentle direction, mixed with a
peculiar dialect they invented that involved a lot of meowing.

It sounds like he asked Jodelle to tell him what she thought would be most natural. Considering she was 10 at the time, I guess the outcome of that makes sense.

That also comes from the production notes:
Quote:
“That was the one great and
true struggle Christophe and I had. I believe in forgiveness and Christophe believes in justified revenge,
and I think Christophe won.”
