Lack of ammunition?

Heather finds out why it's true that you shouldn't talk to strangers. Or look in mirrors, quite honestly.

I enjoy running away from the Insane Cancers (if I can) because it makes some funny Raw Shock-esque chase scenes :) But then, as stated, that's what the Katana is for.

I've personally never had this issue with this game. Although I've always had this issue in SH0. SH0's the only title I have this problem in as a matter of fact :( Sorry I can't be of more help.

That's not true at all. Look on youtube there are people who can beat all the resident evils on hard mode without getting touched using just the combat knife.

They're actually one of the faster enemies.

Right now I've switched the bullet adjust to X3 and and playing on Hard mode, with the idea that I have to kill every single enemy in the game (haven't decided yet whether I have to go out and kill every one in every level, or just the ones I encounter). I've had a couple of spots of real fun with this, it works better with the health bar on. But it's actually a difficult challenge too. I lost pretty much every health item in the Mall. Lucky the first boss is easy. ...I just realized I won't be able to kill the dogs on the subway track.

Anyway, what I'm saying is that it's not a bad idea to make use of the bullet adjust, it's not necessarily cheating. Hard mode with X2 bullets is harder than Normal with X1 and Hard with X3 and killing every enemy is harder than that! It's also kinda fun experimenting with different extra weapons. Really, this is the best Silent Hill for experimentation. Sometimes it's surprising what works where (The knife for the dogs!?)

The dogs are incredibly stupid in this game... I ran up to two of them in the hopes that they would kill me so that I could show my sister Valtiel dragging away Heather's body; they would bite me, run around in circles, try to bite me and miss (and I wasn't even MOVING), and run in circles more.

I never found any ammo for the submachine gun until this recent play through, and I've played the game several times. The first time I played I remember running extremely low on health drinks by the amusement park.

^If you get the USMG, you don't have to worry about ammo. Stamina on the other hand... Which took me forever to realize, BTW.

The game can be incredibly difficult on your first playthrough, since ammo is actually in limited supply. i think i only killed enemies when necessary and i ran from the rest, but after i received the unlimited machine gun, i just kill everything and explore every nook and cranny. I just recently started playing this game again after two years and this game has aged extremely well.

That doesn't help on the first play-through, though. I have, however, since enjoyed beating the worm in the shopping mall in a matter of seconds thanks to that weapon 8)

Once again, I feel like after reading everyone's posts that I am the odd man out. I stockpile ammo for boss fights and kill most regular enemies with melee... especially the katana... fast and less hits than most melee weapons. I have never had an issue where I didn't have enough ammo.

Also, I kill every enemy i come into contact with because I don't want to have to memorize what rooms I left enemies alive in incase I have to backtrack. Except those flying things in SH3... I hate that I don't know enemy names. But you know, they kind of float there and hardly ever come to bother you. haha

^I'm the same, I've never noticed a lack of ammo because I pretty much use melee weapons exclusively so I always have enough ammo for the boss battles. I think it makes the game more exciting anyway, getting up close and personal with all the monsters. When I play through using guns I basically never find myself in any danger.

Heh...i kinda try to avoid the melee, because i know i'm always going to get hit...and i think that effects the ending...i just started playing SH3 again tho and i'm meleeing <----is that even a word?....most of the smaller creatures in the game....the katana is especially nice.

For the most part tho, when i usually play this game..i like using the guns to keep the creatures away from me.

I am an ammo junkie in most games, but I have always done it that way in SH games. I remember not using a single rifle shell in the first game until I got to the boss. Then I just spammed it. I couldn't see him floating around, but I knew I was aimed, so I just show until the cutscene came. It was a little anticlimactic, but it worked.

My friend Gabe ran out of ammo on the final boss for SH3... so I had to beat it for him. We have to use the like 20 hangdun bullets that were left to knock the boss down an then used the mace (or whatever the larger weapon is) to smash it in. It was the longest battle of my life. I must have died like 10 times doing it too. dissappointing, haha. How do you win that battle if you ONLY have melee weapons?

I was just playing SH3 (snowed in from work for two days FML) but yeah I felt the same way, it had been awhile since I'd had the time to sit down and just play, I got about a quarter of the way into the game and I felt like the ammo in the game was very limited but it does make sense because this is the first SH game that has any decent melee weapons.

Yeah, the first two games had good meele weapons too. It's just that there was so much ammo that their use wasn't nearly as necessary, and the controls for meele use in 3 were more sharp and precise, plus you can block.

On my first playthrough, I set the action mode to hard, thinking I was all that. I realised soon that I wasn't all that because I solely relied on guns and the lack of ammunition triggered a fear of running into monsters! I even feared numb bodies, tried out the beef jerky on them a few times but no, apparently they are only after some Heather. I was terrified of progressing.. That is until I discovered the maul in the tunnels, ooomph.

After playing through the game many times now, I like that the ammo is limited. It gives the player a sense of vulnerability. It sure did for me anyway!

As someone who doesn't really play video games outside of Silent Hill, this one had to be my biggest challenge for a first run-through. Eventually, I ended up running from a good portion of the enemies just to conserve what precious little ammo I had. The same thing with health items. By the end, I was sweating bullets over my health, as I didn't want to go all the way back to my last save. But, in subsequent play-throughs...

The fact that it was more challenging led to more replay value than some of the other games, and now the lack of ammo is one of my favorite features in SH3.

I never really noticed a lack of ammo tbh. I mean, there's certainly less than in SH2, but any game containing less than a nations worth of bullets has less ammo than 2.
I just melee everything, and always have. I just finished a fresh playthrough on hard, obviously no bullet adjust, and I had over 100 handgun shots left before The God. Hell, I had about 2 smg mags left. I felt like I was just tripping over it.

I certainly have more of a bent towards melee now that I've played through the games a few more times. Actually, looking back on my first run-throughs in general is kind of laughable now. SH3 was only the second one I had played (after the original) and, damn, did it shake me up!
