Creating a Silent Hill Mix CD

Post by CrypticIdentity »

So I'm trying to compile a CD of my favorite Silent Hill music to pass around to my friends, but I also understand that what my favorite songs are may not appeal to my friends as much. We're all into rock, more classic rock/alt rock, which is why I think the SH music will appeal to them, but I definitely have the most eccentric tastes of the group, so I've been trying to pick songs that not only I like but would also appeal to them--draw them in so that the weirder stuff isn't so weird.

Here's what I've come up with so far.

1. I Want Love (Studio Mix) [SH3]
2. Theme of Laura [SH2]
3. Letter...from the Lost Days [SH3]
4. Love Psalm [SH2]
5. Your Rain [SH4]
6. Promise [SH2]
7. Room of Angel [SH4]
8. Promise (Reprise) [SH2]
9. You're Not Here [SH3]
10. Silent Hill [SH1]

I also had "Always On My Mind" in there at one time, but while I love that song, I wonder if it might drag a little bit. And yes, "Room of Angel" is 7 minutes long, but the movement in it differs considerably from AOMM, due in no small part to the way the melody evolves in the verses.

I'm probably putting an inordinate amount of thought into this, but I want to give them an experience that is not only true to the feel of Silent Hill but also something that won't turn them away if it sounds too eerie or unpleasant. When it comes to placement, I've been keeping in mind which game the song comes from, vocals/instrumental, rock/ambient, and trying to pace the CD in a way that makes sense.

Anyway, what do you guys think? If you could sum up the Silent Hill series in 10-12 of its songs (or more or less, depending on your reasoning), which would they be, and in what order?

No additional thoughts.

The list that you've put together for that purpose seems very fitting.

Actually, better than I would've thought up. So I am now jealous ;)

Taking this statement into consideration, I would highly recommend that you add 'She' [SH1] to the playlist.

You may also wish to add 'Alone in the Town' [SH2], due to it being one of the more accessible tracks of the series -- particularly to newcomers.

That playlist is perfect. I miss only When You're Gone.

I wanted to make a silent hill best of playlist myself, but ended up with like 50 tracks on it. Still don't make up my mind what I really want to hear in that playlist, but when I do I may share the list with you guys.

No "Waiting For You"? I think it's one of the best alt. rock songs SH has.
"Hell Frozen Rain" might be good, too.

2. When Your Gone
3. One More Soul To the call
4. Room of an angel
5. Shot down in flames
6. Alone in the Dark
7. Your Not Here
8. Hell frozen Rain
9. Alex theme
10. Blood Tears
11. Your Rain
12.This Sacred Line
