Re: Silent Hill Sounds Box

No worries. ;)

The 8th Disc, track by track:

o1. "Azusa 1GO": Harry drives by. The song begins with a "Scarlet"esque synth melody, and is a subtle remix of the first game's main theme, "Silent Hill," with a splash of Cybil's guitar-laden theme in the café. It's really well done. A fresh listen to the dullness that has been A.Y.'s later work.

o2. "Silent Hill (Estudio)": This is the piano version of "Silent Hill," once available on the official Silent Hill 3 Web site.

o3. "Anaconda": Something new. A minute-long remix of the ugly organ theme from Silent Hill's [otherside].

o4. "Tussock": Something similar to "Anaconda," although I can't determine its origins—the song from which it's derived. I like it.

o5. "Lost Carol (Long Version)": Just as the name implies, it's the full version (2:45) of "Lost Carol" we weren't given on the third game's soundtrack. This might be the best thing Mary Elizabeth McGlynn has done without ever going overboard.

o6. "Rain of Brass Petals (Other Take)": An instrumental-only version of "Rain of Brass Petals (Three Voices Mix)."

o7. "JOE Sweet Dreams": Joe Romersa displaying his almost listenability [sic]. A little bit of strings; a little bit of piano. It's not bad. "Good night. Sweet dreams. Try to keep your eyes shut."

08. "Last Boss Remix": A remix of god's organ-heavy battle tune. Although, really, there's not much remixing going on—it's just . . . duller, flatter.

09. "Dance Girl Dance": This is just "Heads No. 1" from the four-song Silent Hill 3 promotional soundtrack.

1o. "Queen of the Rodeo": Silent Hill 3's credit music finally has an official name. I prefer my version, ". . . and the Angels Weep."

11. "All Screwed Up": This is "Life" from the aforementioned four-song promo disc.

12. "Innocent Moon (Other Take)": The in-game version of "Innocent Moon" with some voices that clearly ruin the track. Bummer.

13. "I've Been Losing You": A totally unreleased track. Warm melodies and drums. Something new for VIVIsect to hunt down. I like it.

14. "No Excuses": "Sun" without lyrics.

15. "Your Rain (Reprise)": After Henry wins Silent Hill, he steps out of his apartment. This is played.

16. "Result": Silent Hill 4: The Room's result screen

17. "Last Walk": I believe this is the music played at the finale, after Henry wins at life. I forget which ending it's in, though, or after.

18. "Until the Stars Go Out": final boss theme

19. "Kaminaga": Ugly ambiance from the [otherside] apartments, I'm guessing.

20. "Hanyo": Same as "Kaminaga."

21. "A Monster In Her Eyes": More ambiance, but finishes with the guitar tune and a vocal bit. Also a monster dying.

22. "Clown Parade": Ambiance from the Building World, if I remember correctly.

23. "Serious": Weird. . . . It begins identically as "Clown Parade," but shifts into a different set of ambiance for the remainder of the track.

24. "Moments In Bed": Unreleased background music from one of the Henry-Eileen dialogues—I think from when they meet in the hospital. This is something I've been wanting for a while.

25. "Ki-No-Ko": Same as from The Art of Lost Memories DVD.

26. "KO": An unreleased track from Silent Hill 2, although not in the game itself. Really—it sounds like something from Metroid. Its even got a section in 5/4, peculiarly enough.

27. "Theme of Hanna": No idea. Mostly industrial with, what, a harpsichord rhythm and a guitar solo? Sure thing. It's basically a bizarro remix of the main theme—an ugly epilogue to the entire series.

28. "You Are Tired.": A piano and a recorder vying for the love of the other.

29. "Recorder 2007": Roll credits on the Silent Hill series, as our lovable gypsy band retires. There's Donny B. on drums, Zachariah F. on glockenspiel, Franky L. rocking the recorder, Starshine on organ, Syd "Seriously Yearning Drugs" Z. on guitar, and Mr. Papadoupaloupalis on bass.

So you already have it adversary! (I'm so jealous!) Could you please tell me what's in the dvd and the booklet? :D

EDIT: I'ne just heard all the songs in youtube :D
14. "No Excuses": A slightly redone version of music somewhere in Silent Hill 3, I just can't quite remember where. The "blondes have more fun" scene? after god dies?
It's Sun without lyrics :D

Queen of the Rodeo? Man, that's such a terrible name. I prefer your title as well. Also, I still can't listen to this track without thinking of the opening credits of House (because of the piano sample that's used in both this track and Massive Attack's "Teardrop").

I'll have to go through all these newly released tracks and see if I can obsessively hunt down some of the samples!

It's just the "Sun" music, without the Claudia speech. You can find the loop that makes up the majority of this track in my "samples" thread. And, I believe the same synth pad used on "Day of Night" is layered on top of Yamaoka's track. Could be wrong, though.

EDIT:
Also, Alex Theme (Machine Head Mix) sounds like 80s action movie montage music. I kind of like it, in a weird way. It's certainly better than the original.

Thank you, MMY. Knowledge of the soundtracks that Akira himself might not even possess. Hearing the long version of Lost Carol was probably the best thing I've heard SH wise since Room of Angel.

"A Monster In Her Eyes" sounds like a mix of "The Last Mariachi" and "Two Evils" with an ambiance intro, which also sounds like a mix.

The DVD sucks. Just 6 trailers for the last 3 games. :|
It would have been nice to include trailers of all the games, even the content from previous DVDs. Or at least the RAGE mix of Your Rain, which hasn't appeared anywhere.

My Sounds Box arrived today, and... I gotta say that i'm kinda dissapointed... First of all, the covers of the albums aren't the greatest around, the art book IMHO is nothing without illustrations by Masahiro Ito and the DVD is ridiculously boring.
DJ Tomoe wrote:Just 6 trailers for the last 3 games. :|
And that, without mentioning that it's THE SAME trailer for every game, just 2 versions of it, the E3 and the TGS version... I would have loved if there was maybe trailers from SH1 to SH: SM, or maybe the Art of Silent Hill Videos and other of the rare stuff that's been around like the Tender Sugar video included in the SH4 Promotion DVD, i mean, for that price, it was the least i could espect...

The only thing that worths buying it is the Extra Material Disc BUT (this hurts me a lot since i'm a BIG BIG fan of Yamaoka) i gotta say that as soon as the SH4 unreleased tracks start, there's nothing "cool" about that disc, i mean, come on, there are like 5 tracks with a 40 seconds length... Withouth mentioning that there are many "unreleased" tracks that were released before, Life (All Screwed Up) or Heads No. 1 (Dance Girl Dance) for instance...

On the other hand, i have no doubts about the collectible potential it has, and bottom line, this box set is a great buy in the next 2 cases: You're a DIE HARD FAN (or collector) or you don't own any of the soundtracks...

Word. Thanks. I knew I'd heard 'em before, but I haven't played the game in several years, nor have I watched the trailers, probably since '04.

Don't think anybody mentioned it, but the last three tracks on Disc 8 are supposedly from SH Arcade.

The recorder sounds awful.

By the way, Recorder includes the Gradius theme song from the UFO ending.

My box hasn't arrived yet, so this isn't my final judgement but there are some things I'm dissapointed with.
First of all, I like a lot the exta music disk, A LOT, but I somehow feel it lacks two of the best unreleased tracks that would have made the disk perfect: Scarlett's theme and the complete version of Theme of Laura.
I'm also dissapointed with the dvd, they could have put trailers from ALL the games and even one or two "making of" videos.
However, the thing that made me feel even a bit ripped off was the so-called artbook. This thing had the potential to be the most awesome collectible but instead of that we got like 6 images of artwork from the stategy guides and some stuff i dont even know what is supposed to be!
I mean...WTF is this?!

Don't get me wrong, I think this is an awesome collectible and I'm glad konami made it but... it could have been so much more awesome with little to no effort from their part.

Is it just me, or is "You Are Tired" a pretty blatant ripoff of The X-Files theme? Does anyone know if Akira Yamaoka actually composed the Arcade tracks? Because they really don't sound at all like him. They stick out like a sore thumb.

Anyway, the 8th disc is pretty disappointing. The long version of "Lost Carol" is really the only worthwhile track on there. I love "Queen of the Rodeo" (god, I hate that title), but there's a better, fan-ripped version out there that doesn't have that weird, abrupt fadeout at the end.

I was really hoping for more of the Silent Hill 2/3-era in-game ambience type stuff. Maybe the Scarlet track. Maybe the instrumental version of "You're Not Here". And wasn't there an alternate, early trailer-version of "Theme of Laura"?

I think Konami really dropped the ball with this. Sucks.

Will the price really drop? Or will it just go out of print, except for the resellers on eBay inflating the price to three times the MSRP?

Something tells me this thing will only get more expensive as time goes on. That Play-Asia already lists it as "out of print" only makes that feeling stronger.

Meh, whatever. For undisclosed reasons, I stopped caring. ♥

Look, Play Asia had, a few years ago, listed the Lionheart necklace from FFVIII as all gone... totally bought one for Saraieth for our anniversary last year- and for waaay cheaper than they'd listed it- from another site. In other words; yeah, there may be a limited amount, but if the complaints keep rolling in, it doesn't matter how rare and "AMA~ZING" the item is if no one wants it and it really isn't all that awesome. Remember, it's ultimately only collectible/valuable if other people want/value it to begin with. So far, I'd give it maybe two, three years before the price got down to where a cheapass like myself could justify it.

I am so drooling over this right now. But honestly... I don't need to buy them because... Well, you can probably guess. I've already bought 1-4 and the rest can be 'heard' around the internet. The only reason I would even consider buying this would be for the box art.

I've been looking for that long version for ages. I'll have to find it on youtube. I know "Queen of the Rodeo" to be called "Save Before You Quit" and I'm sticking with it. It's way better than the mental image of Heather in a cowboy hat.
