Theme of Laura (featuring the Heaven's Night Mariachi)

Post by Diego_Reynoso »

Hi there guys!

Well, i want to share this with you... I think that just a few of you know about this, but when Akira Yamaoka came to Mexico City he gave a conference and played 3 songs: Silent Hill, Promise and Theme of Laura, expressing his willing to play the last one (Theme of Laura) with a FULL MARIACHI. As some of you know, i'm from Mexico and i'm a musician, so... I made this... I hope you enjoy it:

Thank you so much for your time! :)

This isn't official. He made it himself.

Very good, though. I'd have truly loved it if it were faster.

Ah yes, I realize that now. Somehow I was under the impression he was saying that Akira-san actually did play it with a full-on Mariachi band rather than just express the desire to.

Still, it's really good.

EDIT: Check it out dude, the big man himself tweet'd about ya! :) -

That's a really unique cover and a thoroughly enjoyable listen. Great stuff!

After following your activity in the 'Samples used by Akira Yamaoka' thread -- which seems to be something of a hot-spot for amateur audio aficionados -- it is nice to finally hear some of your work.

You've bagged yourself another SoundCloud follower. Props to you, sir.

Very nice work! I would love to hear other songs, not just silent hill, done in this fashion!

Also, here's a simple google translate of his twitter message:
Great! I play the go with me to Mexico! I love Mexico! That's Great!
Hooray for poor translations, haha.

Finally listened to it after seeing it a few places.
I approve.
I so totally fucking approve. :D

Not exactly what I was expecting, but had a nice latin flair to it. It reminded me of song recreations(?) my buddies used to do when I lived in Houston, so double the nostalgia. Me gusta.

VIVIsect, Badass Cyborg, Typographenia, SilentWren THANK YOU SO MUCH for your comments!! Thank you thank you!! :D

My next Silent Hill related project will be some live sessions... I mean, i own a recording studio, and it's been some time now (years) since i've wanted to do a Silent Hill tribute concert, but due to external situations i haven't been able to do it, so... I guess that now it's time to do something about it...

If this is wrong i'll delete it, but here's the URL for my recording studio:

http://www.alquimiaestudio.com.mx

Is called Alchemy Soundstudio, and the Silent Hill Sessions will be uploaded to the YouTube channel.

THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN, GUYS!! THANK YOU!!

Damn. I just now got around to listening to this and damn... it's so good and professional. Diego, you really have an ear for music! I'm not a music buff but I'll try my best to explain myself: All the instruments flowed very well with each other. There was never too much or too little going on at any time--it was very stimulating to the ears. Well done!

I'm going kinda slow with the sessions on the studio! But it will be done, i promise! ;)

By the way, nobody answered my question: Would you guys like to hear a Mariachi version of Promise or maybe one of the vocal tracks?

And again, THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone for your comments!

PS: Soundcloud has just sent me a email saying that the song is reaching it's download limit, if that happens and anyone missed the chance to download it, please let me now and i'll upload it to Megaupload.

I'd love to hear Promise and - call me crazy - but I feel Cradel Of Forest would lend itself well to a mariachi interpretation

Love it, dude! This is a gift to my ears. Theme of Laura is hands down one, if not, the best track Akira wrote for any of the SH OSTs. SH2's OST was great. Congrats on getting a mention by Akira! That's amazing! Please do lots more covers. You've got a great gift. <3
