Am I still friends with Coleen?

Heather finds out why it's true that you shouldn't talk to strangers. Or look in mirrors, quite honestly.

Am I still friends with Coleen?

Post by Burning Man »

In Silent Hill Chronicles, you can read the Japanese lyrics to the songs in Silent Hill 3 ("You're Not Here," "Hometown," "Letter...", and "I Want Love.").

I have reasons to believe that "Coleen" is a mistranslation, and the correct name is actually "Colin." Now, you know that Team Silent likes to reference various authors within their games, and this got me wondering if they were referring to Colin Wilson of "Outsider" and "The Occult" fame.

Does anyone know enough about his works to speculate if his works could have been referenced in the games?

The name spoken is Carlene. Though you make an interesting point, I doubt it.

It's possible that Carlene is a twisted version of Colin, though. After all, it wouldn't be the first obscure(d) reference.

In the lyrics it's written as Coleen, not Carlene.

I don't think there is any significance to the name. Just a girl the singer is friends with now.

and you're right

Here's the lyrics from Leo's Lyrics

A letter to my future self...
Am I still happy yet again?
Have I grown out 'pretty'?
Is daddy still a good man?
Am I still friends with Coleen?
I'm sure that I'm still laughing..
Aren't I?
Aren't I?

Here's the Link for the whole song.

I've wondered... Mayby they couldn't fit Claudia. They figured that Coleen starts with a 'C' and could be subsituted.
But its probably just a girl from the singer's childhood.

I've heard the name Coleen before.

I doubt theres any significance behind the name, they just had to stick someone's name in there so they plucked one out of thin air.

Since when did Team Silent pluck names out of thin air?

Carlene, one of Heathers friends, Heather's talking about herself in a future tense.

This is an assumption, yes, but it makes perfect sense.

My bad, Coleen then, and ok Cheryl/Heather, but the same applies, talking about ones self in a future tense.

I hadn't heard of Colin Wilson until now, Burning Man, but next time I'm out, I'll be looking for these books--particularly The Occult.

Coulda sworn it was Carlene. But either way I don't think we should be reading into this - it's one line from a song you're not even supposed to take that much notice of when it's playing anyway.

Sure, the song itself bears relevance, but not so much this 'Coleen' character.

I'm not saying that the name "Coleen" holds other relevance in terms of the plot. She can just be considered Cheryl's childhood friend. But the names in Silent Hill has always been a reference to someone.

Take Heather for example. The name was from her voice actress "Heather Morris." Or Eric Gein. Clearly, a reference to Ed Gein. Joseph and Mary from Jack the Ripper case. The roads in Silent Hill? All names of book authors. Tim, Lyne, Uncle David? And so on and so forth. Stanley Coleman seems to be a reference to Stanley Kubrick in my opinion (and Team Silent did mention that they took his works as reference). So, I think it's most likely that "Coleen" or as I see, "Colin" may have been a reference to someone.
