It's not so far away at all. Check out the first post, wherein I link about virtual reality being used even now to treat soldiers coming back from Iraq and people with various phobias. They do a truly amazing job, not only relying on VR scenarios, but strategically releasing scents into the room in accordance with timing in their CG therapies, giving them appropriately weighted prop guns, having them sit or stand to truly put them back in their traumas- things that without CG and VR would be entirely unethical, yet are so dearly necessary to help these people realize what happened to them was not their fault.
Srsly, it's the most groundbreaking work I've seen, and I want in. ♥

Did you really need to bump a 14-month old thread to add one word?

I suppose he meant "sure, Lain, you can use my posts", although I wonder if Lain still needs data.

The problem with psychology, not so much sociology, is that the scientific method concerns that it can be replicated in a lab. Sociology, can be experimented on enough times to prove theories and so forth, since it concerns the group. Psychology concerns the individual, and that's very subjective. Disorders and things mostly go more so into sociology and neurology. (brain chemistry etc.) But with this the psychological model also has some morality/philosophy in it, whereas regular science has an objective philosophy overall. Because of these factors and grey areas, psychology is best a pseudo-science. Specifically, since it deals with subjectivity and no one experiences the things in quite the same ways all the time. I've also seen a many debates in the psychological communities about delusions vs healthy delusions and deities/God with that. They can't decide. Likewise, I hesitate on some of psychology not just because there's so many perspectives but also things like homosexuality and pmsing women were "disorders" until fairly recently. To add to that they rarely seem to "heal" people like regular doctors do.
With me, I like anthropology and in that it's important to see the culture through that culture's POV, in personal experience and none I've seen therapists/psychologists be unable to do this.

"Lowlifes... Shameless filthy wretches. How you celebrate my ascension with such joy. Hailing the very one you've condemned for generations. Have you no shame? What happened to the evil, ruthless sorceress from your fantasies? The cold-blooded tyrant that slaughtered countless men and destroyed many nations? Where is she now?"

Cool story, bro.
What does it have to do with anything, though?

I don't think "pseudo-science" is quite correct, *art-form* would be a better word. Just because it's subjective doesn't mean it still can't be useful. However, things that claim to have a scientific basis, like personality tests, are definitely pseudo-science.Edea wrote:But with this the psychological model also has some morality/philosophy in it, whereas regular science has an objective philosophy overall.
