Fire does not have to touch you to cause severe burns. Convection schmonvection.
Which makes the existence of candles kind of a weird thing. They should be molten puddles of wax what with a raging house fire just a few feet away.

AuraTwilight wrote:That picture is a pretty good counterargument. But that glow could be anything, honestly. I mean, Seven Year Old Cheryl is in the picture, and we know Dahlia was keeping Alessa's body somewhere (their old house, even) while trying to track down her spirit. Maybe those are just...lights.
I'm pretty sure the picture is implying fire.

Yea, well, I'm gonna need more than that, sister. The fact that the whole house isn't up in flames indicates that it very well might not be fire. It looks like light coming out of someone's bedroom.

Do you know anything about art and symbols in art? If something is important the author/artist will draw attention to such things.

do you know anything about not being a condescending asshole? There's more details to Alessa's life and her home than merely a fire taking place. The glow of light from a upstairs room could be multiple things. I could interpret it as Alessa being kept in her bedroom and waking up in correspondence to her other half arriving in Silent Hill, just off the top of my head.
You're right, it's very likely it could be fire, I admitted that. I'm just saying it's not a final nail in the coffin for the discussion or a case-closer. Chill out.

Most likely just oversights on the developers part. We can't expect every single thing in the games to be completely realistic after all.Ryantology wrote:Fire does not have to touch you to cause severe burns. Convection schmonvection.

I'm not being an asshole nor am I condescending. I simply remain firm in my own opinions. In fact I have not really called you names but so far you have called me a jackass and an asshole now. This is a forum about a video game series, if you only want to hear your own opinions go get a blog.AuraTwilight wrote:do you know anything about not being a condescending asshole?
I'm doubting this, although those are good ideas.. Do you need the picture to be enlarged? (I'm probably gonna get in enlarged anyway. Would make a good icon.)There's more details to Alessa's life and her home than merely a fire taking place. The glow of light from a upstairs room could be multiple things. I'm totally not taking sides, but I'm guessing the ESRB would've frowned on a naked 7 year old, even with charred skin.
But since the candles were fireproof as well, I'm going to say: Magic.

You insulted me by suggesting that I'm too dumb or ignorant to understand art allusion and symbolism in response to my disagreeing with you. You may not have intended it, but your words were very rude, condescending, and arrogant. I request an apology before I inform a mod, and we can have THEM make the judgment call. Your choice.I'm not being an asshole nor am I condescending. I simply remain firm in my own opinions. No, I don't, thank you. I can see it fine. The orange glow is not distinctly flames, or anything else.I'm doubting this, although those are good ideas.. Do you need the picture to be enlarged? (I'm probably gonna get in enlarged anyway. Would make a good icon.)
I doubt someone's chill-ness when they insult my intelligence.I'm pretty chill. I'm just saying it's most likely the fire.
@SilentWren: Then why not have Travis wrap her in a flesh blanket?

Wow, you took a question way too far and assuming things I did not say. Whatever your problems are, are your own feelings. Not mine. I didn't imply anything. Go ahead and informs mods. I wasn't flaming you and I certainly didn't "insult" you or call you names.

Aura, I know what side I fall here, and it ain't yours. Unclench, before I'm forced to use words like "black" "pot" and "kettle".

I'm sorry. I was just really bothered by the comment because it felt like a personal dig. I didn't mean to blow my top.

It's alright, Aura. We all have bad days.

Thanks for having the maturity to apologise, Aura. It's much appreciated.
On the plus side, I got to use "unclench" again. It's been some time since I employed that term.

Re: A point that Fungo brought up...*spoilers*
I know, I've been awfully quiet lately. ;)
I definitely disagree that the light in the house is fire. As mentioned, it was a conflagration, not isolated to one room. And, more importantly, the picture is a reference to "Christina's World" (1948) by Andrew Wyeth, and not meant to be taken as a reference point in determining what's happening, or has happened. After all, Cheryl's looking at it, and she didn't exist while the house was still erect.
My interpretation of that specific image, of Cheryl staring at the Gillespie house, is it's an image from Cheryl's dreams which led her to want to come to Silent Hill, tying in with the parallel to "Christina's World."

Of course the entire image is out of chronological order, I supposed that was obvious. But I see it as having a more symbolic meaning, and I'm pretty sure it's referencing the fire.
What is "Christina's World?"
What is "Christina's World?"

The Gillespie house is modeled after the house in the painting.

Very interesting. I can really see the reference. The house is almost exactly the same.
And I see your interpretation.. You meant that was Cheryl's dream that depicts her image of the house, as she wanted to go back there/ back to Alessa? Probably why it has no chronological sense. It's the representation of Cheryl's, let's say, "memory".

>You meant that was Cheryl's dream that depicts her image of the house, as she wanted to go back there/ back to Alessa?<
Yes. As if, while Alessa was calling to her, Cheryl had a dream in which she was walking toward Alessa's house, and saw the lights on in her room. When she woke up, the idea of going to Silent Hill, as if she needed to, was in her mind. So, she asks dad, and off they go.
