I was talking with a roommate of mine tonight, and we started talking about commercials for games.
That being said, have there even been any for Downpour? Considering the game's out tomorrow(?), I'd hope to have seen SOMETHING since they contracted KoRn for the theme...

I haven't seen any commercials yet but isn't the game coming out March 13 now.

I don't even know, which is another major fault on Konami. viewtopic.php?p=643624#p643624This post says Tomm claims tomorrow, though I could've sworn it was supposed to come out the 13th, too. Perhaps something's wrong. Either way, there should already be commercials. I'm not a fan of how Konami's handling this.

I've only ever seen commercials for very high profile games. I'm not surprised there hasn't been any. I am however surprised that I haven't even seen a poster or anything advertising the game.

But besides conventions, I've not seen Downpour advertised at all.

That's Silent Hill for you. The only commercial I remember seeing for a Silent Hill game, was Homecoming, and that was on youtube.
The series has always been a niche title, even when it was still young. That is why I'd never expect them to release a commercial, especially not with today's other types of adverts.

I only remember seeing a commercial for SH3... But yeah, I'm pretty sure that Downpour was supposed to release on March 6th; but they changed the date to March 13th. Where's PyramidFace for a confirmation?

I'd say it's a shame that Silent Hill doesn't get as much financial love as other IPs but I don't think it really needs it. I don't think the type of people who need an advert to draw their interest would really enjoy a game like Silent Hill. If the unthinking majority got their hands on Downpour and started rating it poorly due to it being 'boring' to their COD infected minds that could affect the number of copies that the real market audience buys... Who knows though, I'm honestly not a marketing professional or anything.
I think the majority of people that would be interested in the Silent Hill games will find it one way or another without an advert. After all the series is sort of like one of those legendary IPs that seems to almost be a right of passage into being a 'true gamer'. So I think when a lot of people who haven't played a SH game before see Downpour on the shelves they'll pick it up just out of principle/curiosity.

They changed it to March 13th a long time ago, and the only TV spot I've ever seen for a SH game was Homecoming, and that was literally like 1 time. There have been internet ads, like on IGN, but that's all that I know of.

I think I saw a commercial for Homecoming once, but that's it for televised advertisements. I also saw a copy of a magazine ad for SH1, but I can't think of any others.
Overall, the only games I ever see commercials for are the super popular series such as Call of Duty, Gears of War, and Halo, as well as certain RPGs such as Skyrim.

I saw televised commercials for Homecoming, a magazine ad for The Room, and I've seen ads on Youtube for the HD Collection.

I've seen a few ads for Homecoming in some comic books and magazines and i've seen a commercial ad for Homecoming as well. Posting ads on Gaming sites makes sense, but i would like to see at least a tv commercial for it....
With zombies being the rage it is today, it's quite possible to get sales strickly off of it's creepy theme anyway..even tho SH has nothing to do with those shallow brainless zombie filled games...I've got some concerns for Downpour, but that doesn't mean i want it to fail...this series needs all the exposure it can get..

Based solely on the handling of information for this game alone, I don't think konami is going to throw 5cents of advertising money towards televising it.
Sent to die! (well, except for the whole "people are going in to buy X, so maybe they'll see Y and buy that too!)

See, this is what surprises me. They contracted KoRn to do the attract mode theme, so that sounded like they were going to at least advertise it somehow, but we barely even have a solid release date, much less anything else.
I beg to differ on the thought that people who need ads would hate the game. If someone becomes intrigued by the game because of an ad, who are you to say they'll automatically hate it or that the game's too deep for them?

I too have never seen a Silent Hill commercial which really disapoints me. It seems like Konami is embarrassed or indifferent to Silent Hill. Who knows how big Silent Hill could be if there were more ads to tell people. When Homecoming came out, I had no idea because it was never advertised (but it was kind of good that I did't know because I got it for $40).

When Homecoming came out, I had no idea because it was never advertised (but it was kind of good that I did't know because I got it for $40). I can't blame them too much for not advertising on tv. There are definitely some games that benefit from getting their face out there to either remind the public that they're coming or because it'll be something an average viewer might take interest in. The SH games are pretty niche, and advertising would likely not generate a lot of interest from an average viewer. Definitely, though, you have a point on your stuff with Homecoming. Sometimes it's crazy how we can miss stuff simply because the reminder advertising doesn't happen. : \

There was an ad for Downpour in the back of the Past Life trade. That was so long ago that Fall 2011 was the given release date.
