I really wish it was longer.. :/ The first film seemed to go by too fast, so i'm really hoping that the pacing in this movie is spot on. I don't want to get all into it and then it just end....like SH3. lol

An hour and half-ish does sound a little short to me, but until I actually see it I don't think it's really fair to pass judgement. I didn't think the first one felt too long though and it seems that plenty of others did, so perhaps they've made the right decision for most viewers.

125 minutes is the run time of the first movie according to the DVD box.

So we're losing roughly a quarter of that length. Hopefully it's not going to waste any time repeating information revealed in the first film then as that would eat into valuable screen time.

They're going to have to repeat the story of the first film because nobody understood it.

That's what is a little worrying, how much time is there going to be for the new story if there's a lot of going over the last one? It might work out fine though, we'll know for certain fairly soon.

Why is 90 minutes too short?

Take out all the gameplay and filler from any of the games and you have maybe 30 minutes of stuff if you're lucky.

I worry about that also. Another thing that confuses me is the statement that Bassett said a few months ago. I remember him stating that movie-goers would not have to see the first film to jump right into this one and understand what is going on. How is that possible? He is basically saying that this SEQUEL to Silent Hill would be able to stand on its own in terms of story-line and seeing the 1st film is not really necessary to understand this films plot!!! That is a troublesome statement and it is very hard to believe and understand how the heck that could be possible. Revelation is a coninuation of the plot of the first Silent Hill, so if a person didn't see Gans film, then how could they be able to just sit down in the theater for SH:R and be able to comprehend it to their fullest capacity? PLEASE help me figure Bassett's comment out! Please. . .

Another thing I want to know is if the 94 min run-time includes the ending credits or not, because then the film itself would be far less than 1 hour and 1/2 long. That is way too short for a psychological thriller!!!

Understanding EVERYTHING and understanding only whats necessary are two different beasts. Many continued sequels make it so you will understand the things you need to, whether it's for people who have no knowledge of the prior story or for a small reminder. Bassets story may also not rely too heavily on the first film, and it really doesn't have to. So I don't think his comment should be worrying.

3-D has no bearing on the length of a film. IMAX does however, but it's still pretty generous.

Extended editions are always a possibility. Theaterical cuts sometimes are shortened to get more viewings. But Bassett has made no indications that this is the case. Likely what we've got is the final cut as he likes it.

Maybe his directing and writing style is to just get to and stay on the point.

I want to believe this is a joke.

Most horror movies take a bit longer because it gives the director more time to really immerse the viewer in the scenes and to allow for parts where not a lot happens which the games did as well, especially Silent Hill 2. It's that building sense of dread that really helps the scary scenes and whatnot.

Or we can just bring up how the exposition and shit in the cutscenes apparently totals up to 30 minutes as if that means fucking anything. (It doesn't, by the way.)

I do think 90 minutes is a bit short. On the other hand, Bassett has already shown us that he can make good use of a short runtime.

Yeah, an hour and 1/2 is OK, but i'm always in favor of longer films being longer (with the exception of the LOTR films). Anyway, if the film turns out to be great i won't fret about the length of it.

I'm curious as to what film you are referring to? What movie has Bassett done that he has shown he can make good use of a short run-time? Cuz I must admit that I am unfamiliar with Bassett and any of his films.

Scanman22 wrote:I disagree with you guys saying that 94 min is a "decent" run-time. I think a movie like this should not be any shorter than 100 min.! I think that 104 min. would have been a better run-time because I think the 94 min. includes credits and they can possibly run for 6-10 min themselves at the end!
I want this film's pacing to be spot on and never feel rushed especially for a "thinking" type of psychological thriller that Silent Hill should be!
I'm agreeing here. An extra 10 minutes I think would do wonders, and I just can't help but think it'll feel rushed. 94 minutes is what I've heard called a "safe horror film runtime", but this isn't just any horror film, and it needs a risk. I'm very afraid that they won't use the time of Heather wandering around town well enough and may rush things like the climax among other things.

If they used extra time wisely, for actually interesting stuff or relevant stuff (I.E. not the Sean Bean stuff from the first film). it would work just fine.

Is that supposed to excuse something? You really think they went "oh we're on a tight budget thus let's make a short film"? So how does one explain away films on similar budgets with longer runtimes?

I swear this place is so fucking out of touch with reality sometimes.
