Re: Revelation Not Being Screened For Critics
Who cares, the original film is one of my favorite movies and critics slammed it. Though, keep in mind, not nearly as hard as other video game adaptions. Considering the fact that the new film is meant to be stand-alone, the quality isn't going to be dictated by the first in any way, for good or worse. I see it doing better than the first critically, though, even if just a bit.

The video game movie with the highest RT rating is Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Yeah, I'll let that one sink in a bit.

Roger Ebert gave it a 3.5/4.KiramidHead wrote:The video game movie with the highest RT rating is Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Yeah, I'll let that one sink in a bit.

It still IS a sequel! Bassett just said that he would explain things in this one well enough that it isn't absolutely necessary to see the first one in order to understand what is going on in this film. So use the term - "stand-alone" more loosely than your comment implies.Garmonbozey wrote:Considering the fact that the new film is meant to be stand-alone...
But I agree that the first one was a good Silent Hill-ish experience and this one should take the cake...Critics be Damned!!!

Yeah, and we know just how great that movie was. Advent Children never stood a chance.KiramidHead wrote:The video game movie with the highest RT rating is Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Yeah, I'll let that one sink in a bit.
I'm rarely on the forums anymore. Click here for ways to reach me.
Re: Revelation Not Being Screened For Critics
To be fair, as bad as The Spirits Within was I learned to appreciate it a bit more after seeing Advent Children.
Re: Revelation Not Being Screened For Critics
I thought Mortal Kombat was the best-reviewed video game movie.

It has a 34% on RT compared to the first Silent Hill's 29%.Droo wrote:I thought Mortal Kombat was the best-reviewed video game movie.
Re: Revelation Not Being Screened For Critics
This is a tactic utilized by the film industry to lure in viewers opening night, before the reviews start pouring in. If the rumor is true, (most likely)we're going to be subjected to a mediocre rendition of SH:3.Droo wrote:I've never understood the reasoning behind not screening things for critics. It sends a very powerful message that the movie might suck, and critics are still going to weigh in with negative reviews once it's out. What's the point?

Re: Revelation Not Being Screened For Critics
Again: horror films are often not screened for critics. While yes, it is sometimes an indicator of how a studio thinks critics will receive a film, this is more of an issue with the genre and not indicative of the film's quality.Chuckles wrote:This is a tactic utilized by the film industry to lure in viewers opening night, before the reviews start pouring in. It kinda sorta deserves it.Droo wrote:I thought Mortal Kombat was the best-reviewed video game movie.
That said, it was a completely unnecessary film. Mortal Kombat already had a movie version: Big Trouble in Little China.
Re: Revelation Not Being Screened For Critics
The critics received an advanced screening for Sinister, which fared well. I do agree that this is generally associated with the horror genre, but it's not always the case(and this is correlated to the fact that they want audiences who value what the critics have to say to show).
On a another note, what can you expect from the studio distributing Stephanie Myers's The Host?

And where did you hear that rumor? If the rumor is true, (most likely)we're going to be subjected to a mediocre rendition of SH:3.
Re: Revelation Not Being Screened For Critics
Who cares? I don't really give a damn about it, to be honest.
Won't post my reasons because you clearly don't give a damn, too.

Re: Revelation Not Being Screened For Critics
The original link, posted by Droo, indicates the film isn't going to be screened to critics.

But it doesn't proof anything, really - as others have already said.

Doesn't mean I can't speculate.

Re: Revelation Not Being Screened For Critics
Hardly surprising. The trailers and adverts have been less than stellar, and after the first film, my hopes aren't high. Honestly, I love SH, but in recent years Downpour and the associated comics have turned out to be diamonds in a lot of rough.

Speak for yourself. Blandpour was a low point of the series for me.Orestes wrote:Honestly, I love SH, but in recent years Downpour and the associated comics have turned out to be diamonds in a lot of rough.
Shattered Memories is the only really good SH game since The Room in my opinion.

Re: Revelation Not Being Screened For Critics
Since this rumor has obviously been laid to rest due to the recent ads citing prescreened reviews, shouldn't this topic now be closed?
