Foremost, more importantly than all else, the thing that P.T. gets right is that it absolutely trusts the player to learn, find a way to cope, and ultimately survive the experience with their own interpretation to take away. The team shared this teaser in a delightfully omakase fashion, as if to say, "here is a taste of our vision -- it will likely disturb you, but, please, make of it what you will. There is more if you're brave."

In an era where studios ship games with every designer on their payroll essentially linking arms around the player to keep them from bumping into anything or getting lost, it's downright admirable to see this team won't make their game dumber just to make sure you get through it. I miss that kind of trust.

Anyway.

Pros:

The atmosphere

It seems to have a few unsettling scares that leave you thinking, "Is it going to happen?" and in some cases, the scare does or doesn't manifest. Haven't really seen much of this kind of scare since the earlier Silent Hill games.

Music and sound. Reminded me of SH 1-4 and Akira Yamaoka.

The increasingly disturbing and terrifying loops.

The design of the baby.

The story.

The jump scares weren't at the worst places, even if the ghost lady was a bit generic.
Agreed. Couldn't have posted the pros (IMO) better.

Atmosphere and sound design are good. Graphics is very impressive, though the art direction seems to deviate from previous titles. The narrative is very Silent Hill-esque, though somewhat of a rehash.
Very stoked overall. I've played only MSG2, but that game alone made me belief that Hideo Kojima's intelligence and passion will have positive effects on Silent Hill. Guillermo del Toro on the other hand I'm very apathetic of.

Hello SHF it's been awhile. The SH's trailer created anticipation, making me want to see more...as teaser trailers are meant to...incorporating a modern television icon was a great marketing move.

PT makes me want to grab Tomm Hulett and Christophe Gans by the scruff of their necks and rub their stupid faces In it.

Is that a positive comment?

PT Makes me glad we have so many different takes on Silent Hill, even if not everyone like everything, which is just fine.

He may be hit and miss but if you have seen Pan's Labyrinth you know he can be pretty inventive with his monster design and he knows creepy so there remains hope. :D

Right, and what a dynamic duo the two of them will potentially make. I never would have guessed these two teaming up in a million years. Its such a unique combination of creative power.

I just noticed something odd while watching a playthrough:
In the Bleeding Fridge loop, with the radio going 'The father hung himself with a garden hose they had in the garage', the distorted voice from the radio says 'The father hung himself with an umbilical cord they had in the garage'

Now that is something Silent Hill-like :P

Nice attention to detail. Its the little nuances like that that make the SH universe come to life.

It is a nice idea but as a parent we actually kept our sons umbilical cord......

There is absolutely no way you could hang yourslf with one, even if it was fresh you would still have trouble, as it was in the garage I'm pretty sure it should be all dried up like beef jerky.

Image

Like I say it's a nice idea but I just don't see it.

The one in the image is quite long but the piece we got to keep was only about 4 inches long.

I may be wrong, maybe you could hang yourself with one, not going to try though :D

This teaser. It has done EVERYTHING right, in my opinion. The greatest part is that it leaves you with nothing but a flash-light, and is basically saying "you're not in control here. So just sit back, and experience this teaser."

Full 10/10 from me. :) :D

Well it could've been a monster baby and pretty fresh. The idea of it is what makes it strange. :P
