I dont really think its all that bad. I mean James -to me- sounded the same way.
"...I got a letter..."
I think it is that some dont really care for the way the character is played since it differs from the other ones, having to build strength for maximum power and such. Maybe thats it? I dunno, I liked Henry's character.

I don't know, there was just something about him I didn't like. You're right James is a little flat, too. But at least he's believable in that he wants to find his wife and all that. Henry more wakes up "Oh dear. I can't get out. Oh, well"

Well, he´s very hollow for you to get into the game and feel like you´re the one in it, I guess. I hate that kind of thing, I only like it if it´s in an RPG, there it makes perfect sense not in an horror game. Henry never seemed a bit on the edge with giant shaking penis monsters around and fashion-whore ghosts flying around.

i thought Henry was great, i mean, with what was going on and all, he just wasnt sure if it was all real. so to me i think he was a good character. he was just having a hard time dealing with what was going on. james was the same way, he wasnt sure if what he was going through was real either.

id have to say the only protaganist in the sereis( i dont know about harry) is heather.shes the only one that reacted to all the weird stuff.you guys say she wasnt beleivable becouse she didnt act scared, well the creaters even said that she adapted.she was freaked out until she got to the part where
she always looks scared before that part of the game, then she adapts. henry never acted anything really, just tired.which becouse he had to keep waking up every 10 min. id say he was too tired to really react.i dont know about the way he acts when hes dreaming though.

He's so...dull. I mean, you get the sense Henry couldn't care what happens either way. I felt Heather was sort of unlikeable at times and James as well, but their charcaters had some depth, at least.

What..the.....hell?
No character depth, poor voice acting and a general dislike for SH4 by most.

I thought henry fit right in with the "heroes" of silent hill. laid back to a certain extent. I think it would make the game less scary/creepy/disturbing if the "heroes" showed realism. it makes the player all the more empathetic. but, thats just how I feel. hell, I'm one of the people I know who got creeped out because of the blair witch movie (the 1st one, but I will admit the second one was better).

I don't hate Henry... and I care about what happens to him... I think it's pretty obvious that he cares, too. Why else would he pound on the door whenever someone was there, and continue climbing through the hole to fight and make progress? He even watches over other people in the game.
So he has a calmer manner than some people. I consider that a good thing. The "are you ok" line is undoubtedly strange, but it is a normal thing to say upon seeing someone hurt, and he wasn't particularly close to Cynthia; he probably didn't know what to say. Was he supposed to wail out "CYNTHIA!" and weep at her side? Anyhow, I think it was supposed to be humorous.
And what do we really need to know about Henry besides what we do? We know everything that's important to the game. There is plenty of background to the game, but Henry just wasn't related to it before. Do you want to know about his past love relationships, or what?
We know next to nothing about Harry when we play SH1. And he speaks in pretty monotonous tones, with several repeated lines. But I don't dislike him, either.

Well, both Harry and Henry have quite a few reasons to question reality. Harry was having a dream the whole time (BAD ending =P) and both wake up a lot durning their little misaventure. Henry a whole lot more than Harry.
I think It's quite natural to act confused when you don't know if what you're seeing is real or not.
Either way, in comparison to the rest of the SH cast, Henry is a frikkin' brick.
