Throughout the game, we are presented with different possibilities on when mary really died. At the beginning, he says she died 3 years ago, but could this be another delusion?

Later in the game, we see a letter from mary, wishing laura a happy birthday. Laura says her birthday was just last week. could it be that mary has actually died within a week?

Let's take this one step further, what is james doing at the beginning of the game. He is in a rest stop bathroom, seemingly splashing his face with water at the sink. could it be that he had JUST finished killing mary before that? could she be in the trunk of his car?

In one ending we see James pick up Mary's lifelss body and carries her out of the room. He then drives his car into the lake. Could it be that this is what James had meant to do in the first place?

picture this scenario and tell me if it could be right:

Mary gets sick 3 years ago. It is a terminal illness, so James knows that this is a "death sentence". 3 years later, Mary is much worse, and suffering. She askes James to take her to see Silent Hill one last time. James kills Mary. He picks up her body and puts it in his car. His intention is to kill himself too, because he cannot stand to be without her. However, in his subconscious, part of his survival instinct cannot stand the thought of his own death and does not want to die. His subconscious psyche starts creating delusions to help him cope with what has just happened. It rationalizes with him that she died 3 years ago (thinking the sickness was a "death sentence", so 3 years ago she was already as good as dead). He stops at the rest stop on the way out of town, still trying to rationalize and make excuses in his head, in order to subconsciously get out of commiting suicide. In the rest stop, his delusions become stronger, he has now fully convinced himself that she died 3 years ago. But then his "rationalization" reaches a roadblock... "If she is dead, then what am I doing here right now?" He needs an excuse as to why he is there, in order keep up the delusions. His "guilt" subconscious, along with the residual magical powers of the town, materializes the letter from Mary. (This is proven by, as more of the truth is revealed to James, the letter slowly starts to dissappear, and then vanish, symbolizing that the town's power to facilitate and encourage his delusions are fading). In the bathroom, with the letter, this is where the game starts.

Errr, you should really change the title man. That's a big spoiler,I'd hate for somebody to get ruined on the story, wouldn't you?

If your saying he says she died around the time she got sick, because to him,she was dead, then mabe. That's a good theory. All I know is he killed her 3 days before the events in SH2.

Maybe change it to when did Mary die? It still gives the story away in the title!

I'll have a million pounds if your offering!

I do like the idea that she may be in the boot though :)

Oh, man... Adversery? Don't you have your posts back-uped somewhere? Some hundred pages of info on everything about Silent Hill... :D

>Don't you have your posts back-uped somewhere?
Only some of my theories.

>could you enlighten me please?
Mary was hospitalized at Brookhaven Hospital on May 9th, according to her diary--the one found on the rooftop. The day she is told she's "got to go home" is May 13th. This is when James returns to Silent Hill, picks her up, is given the letter--by Mary--, takes her to an undisclosed location, kills her, and puts her in the trunk. The next day, he finds the letter in his pocket, reads it, parks outside of Silent Hill--Mary still in the trunk--and goes about on his journey: May 14th.

I've placed The Room in 2004, and Silent Hill 2 occurs ten years prior Silent Hill 4. Thus: 1994.

Does it imply anywhere that Mary really is in the trunk?

What the Adversary says is probably right except for one thing. I dont think he took her to an "undisclosed location" to kill her. I think he took her to their old hotel room that they stayed in before, because i thought i recalled seeing or hearing that she wanted to see the view from that room for one last time. From there, he put her in the trunk and probably contemplated driving into the lake so they could die together.

In a way: The Rebirth ending.

James needed Mary's body to preform the ritual. Plus: Where else would Mary's body be? James killed her. I don't think he'd just call the doctor and say "hey, she's dead." No, he would panic, realizing what he's done, put her in the trunk, completely lose his mind, and boom! SH2 begins.

wow, that diary was Mary's.I thought it was Angela's diary.I thought that maybe she had been in a hospital and then when she got out she went looking for her family to make them pay.Guess I was off.
*To Adversaery*I would love to get in to an intellectual conversation with you about how you get the things you do from the tinyest clues.

oh yeah, because people NEVER rebuild things when they burn down... a year is a long time, this can be proven when you see all new buildings in New Orleans next year.
