OK
This may have been asked before, but I couldn't find it anywhere.
Why isn't maria following james into that bowling center?
I guess it's because Laura and Eddy are not supposed to see her right?
Just want to make sure!

Interestingly enough I mentioned it in the "intro" topic that's floating around somewhere, but yes, Maria can't be seen by anyone but James, so she doesn't go into the bowling alley with him.

Because Maria doesn't like bowling. Besides: Sunday's are for bowling, not Saturday's, when Silent Hill 2 occurs.

I really hope someone gets your joke and doesn't jump on your ass for that, as they're wont to do.

I'm sure no one will--stock--but it was worth a shot. I thought at least you would understand. But, really: Silent Hill 2, going by my explanation, occurs on a Saturday. President Bill Clinton was giving a radio announcement that very day.

And back when fat context-bending socialists weren't revered as gods.

I assumed that Maria purposefully (subconsciously) avoided going into the bowling alley because she knew it would mean having to interact with people other than James. I am probably wrong.

Maybe Mary hated bowling? Though she doesn't seem the type to really 'hate' anything, and I am grasping at straws. Really thin ones, like those ones you get with school milk.

That sounds about right to me. If she entered the bowling alley with James, Laura would not have been able to see her (Eddie might have, just as James could see Angela's tormenter), and that would have forced James to ask some questions that someone (Maria, maybe, or Pyramid Head, or Xu-whatever, or the dog at the control panel) didn't want him asking.

We could add James/Mary themselves to that list of people, though I think Eddie would'nt of seen Maria either.

well MAYBE. But she wouldn't have looked like Maria to him but just like another monster.

Just like James could see Abstract Daddy, a monster, but for Angela it looked like her father.

Would have been an interesting scene in the game, Eddie sees the Maria monster, jumps up, grabs a bowling ball and beats her to death.
James stands nearby, all shocked

While Laura stands and stares as well, hopelessly confused at why Eddie is swinging a bowling ball at nothing.

Ernest perceived Maria as a human perfectly damn fine. Besides, Maria being a human is much more in line with his sociopathic character. James seeing the Abstract Daddy as a monster could've been his own mind at work so he could justify saving Angela combined with what he already knew and experienced. Maria being some random monster wouldn't fit for Eddie's Otherworld.

I hate to say it, but you're probably right. I expect if Eddie had seen Maria, he probably would have seen a sexy chick and maybe tried to put moves on her,

I know that it's not possible, but I also wonder what Laura would have made of Maria, if she could have seen her (and yes, I know she couldn't). Might she have mistaken Maria for Mary?

There are a lot of interesting speculations about what could have happened in the game, had a character made a different choice.

More like "Hi." "Hi, there." "Are you calling me fat?" "What? No, I-" "Don't like to me, I'm not stupid!" *BANG!*

She'd certainly pick up on the similarities, but I get the feeling that the hair and clothes, along with a sort of spiritual recognition of Mary's personality, would make Laura retort, "Are you Mary's snobby twin sister, or something?"

LAURA: "Are you Mary's snobby twin sister, or something?"

MARIA: "No, I'm Maria."

Laura responds by kicking Maria in the shins, and then Maria transforms into that Final Boss thingy and starts choking her. Eddie and James watch placidly.

JAMES: "We should probably help her, you know."

EDDIE: "Yeah, but she called me a gutless fatso one time too many."

JAMES: "True. She stomped on my hand, too."

EDDIE: "Yeah. Want some pizza?"
