Post subject: Skinned Mike (Spoilers?)

I remember reading long ago the real meaning of Skinned Mike. It was something along the lines of how he wasn't really "skinned", just beat up and stripped of his clothes. Can someone explain the real explanation to the skinning of Mike and what evidence in the game points to it?

It's just been bothering me lately, as I've been playing it through again..

Spoilers ahoy!
When you're in the apartment world for the first time and examine all of the rooms closely- you'll learn about this whole ordeal with Nurse Rachel, Mike, and Richard.

Mike is a perverted stalker who is persuing Nurse Rachel--he's the dude next to Henry in rm. 301 with all the porno mags. Eventhough Rachel has a boyfriend (the guy who paints a lot.)

Frank the super put all those notes in Rachel's mailbox because he thought that Mike was her boyfriend, not the painter guy.

The guy who played video games audio taped Richard beating up (peeling the skin off) Rachel's stalker Mike..
.
Hope that clarifies.

Yes, I noticed all of that (I'm not new to the game, just curious ^^; )
I just thought I missed something because someone once said that this "skinning" wasn't that literal. That Richard just beat him up in front of everyone, took his clothes and left him naked to go back to his apartment. But I guess the literal way does make sense and explains all the blood that is in Richard's room when you visit it.
No, I'm reasonably certain that Mike was not actually skinned alive. After all, he writes in his diary after that. The clothes Braintree mentions on tape and Mike mentions in his notes are the ones which were stripped (read: skinned) from Mike. The actual 'skinning' is very brief, too, not nearly enough time to flay even a small part of Mike's skin. Even though Rachael's boyfriend writes that he 'peeled his skin off', it's unreasonable to think that's what actually happened.
So, the skinning wasn't literal, and actually just a metaphor for the removal of pride, ego and protection. What actually happened was what you detailed in your second post. My opinion.

EDIT: I love your avatar, Friday. Cracks me up every time.

Wait.. Rachel is a nurse. If so is she the same nurse in SH2?

Yes. She's the nurse that attended Mary at St. Jerome's before she was transferred to Brookhaven Hospital--though I also believe there's a very high possibility that Rachel went to Brookhaven with Mary, to tend to her there as well.

Do we really need the spoiler tags? this games been out over a year now, and anyone who hasn't played it who wanders into this forum has only themselves to blame. Why would they be in the SH forums anyhow?

That being said...yeah, he meant to rip all his clothes off and it also got jumbled up with the dead cat, which I don't care to go into. I didn't find the "evil Seinfeld" subplots in SH4 to be interesting at all.

That's funny.

I thought that incident was more of a double meaning, a play on words made into a physical representation that Team Silent threw in.

Actually, the two names are spelled differently, so there's some doubt on that.

Rachael and Rachel can be spelled completely different by translators...

It's a possibility that they're the same person.
I'm just sayin', there's more than one nurse named Rachel/Rachael.

I think it's sort of weird to purposely throw in fan-nod characters in Silent Hill 4 to strengthen its ties to previous games, and then introduce a different Nurse named basically the same thing, working in the same town as the character in the previously mentioned game, and intend for it to be a different person.

To me, thats like mentioning a character named Walter Sulivan in Silent Hill 5 when you find an old trench coat in the Silent Hill prison store room, and saying that it's not the belonging/mention of Walter Sullivan.

Rachel/Rachael=translation issues.

Even more blaring that this argument is Hope House vs Wish House, which everyone has openly accepted as the same place, despite being a completely different name(I know the reason), but they can't accept Rachel over one missing letter that doesn't even change the english pronunciation of the name, in a Japanese game?

It's a high possibility that they are one and the same. I believe they are, but that's my opinion.

Sometimes things get messed up, you know?
Remember the Hope/Wish House thing?

But that was because of a Lawsuit (if I remember correctly)...The Rachel/Rachael thing was just (as far as I care to know) a spelling error.

Somebody sued them for portraying a name (which they probably came up with off the top of their heads) as an evil fictional organization? I love our legal system. :?
But I didn't realize that about Hope vs. Wish House. In light of that, the Rachel typo seems even more plausible.

Well as it turns out Hope House is a real orphanage, so they changed it.....too bad Wish House is one too... Doh! >_<

I think the confusion is because Walter was young at the time.

Little kids tend to take things literally.

Ok Nurse Rachel.. Was also in SH2.. remember the little girl Laura mentioning her? See there's a connection there.. So Mike may indeed be a future story element in the series..
