Silent Hill 2 vs. Silent Hill 4.

Post by Anonymous »

After hearing every living soul on the boards espousing the virtues of Silent Hill 2, mentioning how dissapointing everything after it was and lamenting the downward curve of game quality, I went in to Silent Hill 2 expecting a banquet of the most singularly scrumptious storyline and gameplay I had ever experienced.
I just beat it last night. Man, what a let down! Silent Hill 2 didn't quite match up to Silent Hill 4. The story and gameplay were, of course, excellent...and wandering the town in the dead of night was particularly scary. Getting the Great Knife shocked and pleased me. But the whole thing was so easy, and the story wasn't as touching or personal.

Silent Hill 4, fo' life! 8)

Oh. That's a little... weird. I'm inclined to disagree, because the entire story is a personal revelation.

Is true that SH 2 is the easiest in the series (At least for me), but SH4 lacks important things from the series like to be losyt in the middle of a deep darkness, and wonder what the hell is going up... Pyramid Head is one of the best details of the series and the symbolism is unbeatable... SH 4 is great, but still being the worst in the series (Even the greatest have their lowest ▼_▼)

Oooh, bad wording on my part, Adversary. Lemme rephrase that, it wasn't as personal to me - I couldn't relate to James. Obviously that makes it a matter of pure preference and opinion, so I'm not trying to persuade anyone, just expressing a bit of dissapointment in the claim of the majority.
And yeah, Kage...Pyramid Head was something else. It was nice having a real adversa...er...nemesis throughout the game. Tearing him apart twice at once with his own weapon without getting hit was also great for the ego. :) Fighting Walter wasn't quite as liberating, though I did get a major kick out of lancing his inner god eight freakin' times.

Ehhhh it's all personal preferrence. I personally can't relate to the hunk of cardboard that is Henry. I preffer 2 to 4 good for me you preffer 4 to 2 good for you.

i prefer 2 to 4 but agree that Sh2 is VERY easy to beat. i can understand why people feel Sh2 is the best game of the series, but personally, it's not my favorite.

The thing that still irks me about Sh4 is that imo, with some changes here and there, it could've been the best game in the series. but it ends up being imo, the worst of the 4 games.. still a good game, but just not up to par as the first 3.

I'm staying neutral. I like all the Silent Hills, and they all have their own good and bad points. Silent Hill wouldn't really be Silent Hill without all four, and I don't care if SH4 used to be summat else.

But when it comes down to SH2 against SH4, I'm more inclined to say 2, because it's story felt more rounded, whereas 4 simply continued an established plot.

I prefer Silent Hill 2. I like SH4 a lot too, but the story, the atmosphere, the monsters, the whole gameplay in Silent Hill 2 was better. Well, at least to ME.

Wow you know i've never really compared the two but i think that if you took elements from both you would have an awesome game SH2 had one of the best stories i have seen in a video game in...forever since it was so deep and confusing at times it just made you guess as to what was going on and scared the living daylights out of you

Yet SH4 had probably the coolest thing i have ever seen in my life a swing-ometer that was too cool but it had awesome game play for a survival horror game with good enemies to fight and an awesome final boss fight

In all both games have their flaws but without them the series would be kinda dull you know i think that if we took good elements from both we could make the perfect game...but it ain't gonna happen lol

You really shouldn't go off of other's opinions. I played it and loved it, so you never know. Just rent it first, don't buy it until you know if you like it or not.

It's definitely worth playing.

If you enjoy other three, then this you will at least enjoy getting some back story of the other ones.

I just like how each sequel is different in a gameplay sense, instead of handing us the exact same game again and again.

Having only played SH2 and SH4 i can't paeak for the rest of the series. However, I have been in love with SH2 since I first played it when it first came out. I agree that it was really easy to beat, but it was SOOO creepy. I love it. SH4 was really a good game too, largely because it is so different from the others. Also, the cinematics were great in SH4. Very realistic. I like them both, but SH2 has a special place in my heart...

If I didn't know SH4 was previously set to be another game I would probably like it a little better... I just can't give SH4 the same respect I give the other 3... and that makes me enjoy it alot less...

Though for me, Sh2, was alot harder and better experience overall... even before I knew about SH4's dark little secret... maybe because it was my first Sh...

Silent Hill 3 was my first love...I mean, first game. I don't give it any special favor because of that, though.
I think mixing things up a bit was just the ticket for Silent Hill. It wouldn't do for the series to get into a rut.

If only the mixing up was originaly intended to be for Sh4 =(

I wonder if things would have turned out diffrently... and what exactly was Konami doing before they changed plans

I'm given to understand that the only thing which was actually changed was the title. The game was supposedly designed as a sub-chapter in the Silent Hill story to begin with, so game-wise I don't think much would have been different.

The way I heard it was suposed to be something that had nothing to do with Sh... and Konami didn't want to risk bringing something new out... so the game was adapted to fit SH's world

If the game had anything to do with Sh in the first place... there would have been no need for any change...
